Atlético Madrid’s Sport City Will Bring In Revenue “On Par With FC Barcelona”

Seven Years In The Making

Speaking on his Twitch stream, Rubén Uría has revealed that Atlético Madrid’s new Sports City will generate a significant amount of revenue for the club. The journalist, who is heavily associated with the club, said “People aren’t aware of what the Sport City will mean for Atlético Madrid”. He went on to say that “It will bring revenues almost on par with FC Barcelona”.

The project, which had visual plans released earlier this year, has been in the pipeline ever since the team moved into the Estadio Metropolitano in 2017. However, it was only when the local council of Madrid approved the plans that they could start work

It is expected to be completed by late 2026 and will consist of numerous 7-a-side and 11-a-side football pitches, tennis and padel tennis courts, swimming pools and gyms all available to the public. Alongside it, there will be a mini stadium, training pitches, dormitories and high-performance facilities for the club’s men’s, women’s and academy teams to access.

It all started with the new stadium seven years ago. Along the way they have attempted to make other large investments with some turning out to be more fruitful than others (see João Felix). But now it appears the long-term financial sustainability of the club is being thought about with projects such as the Sport City being key to this.
