How Everton Have Lined Up

Jordan Pickford has started in goal for all Premier League games so far. He has kept two clean sheets in a row, the latest coming in an impressive 2-0 win over Ipswich Town. With Jarrad Branthwaite‘s injury issues, Michael Keane and James Tarkowski have formed a partnership in defence. Vitaliy Mykolenko has started all but two games at left-back. Ashley Young has alternated between left and right back this season as he continues to be a great squad player aged 39.

Over the last few matches, Orel Mangala, Idrissa Gueye, and Abdoulaye Doucoure have rotated in the two deeper midfield spots. Dwight McNeil has been starting in an attacking midfield role and is Everton’s top scorer with three Premier League goals.

Against Ipswich, Iliman Ndiaye scored from the left wing with Jack Harrison equally as impressive from the right. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has started all eight games but has only scored twice. Beto, signed for £26.8 million last season, is yet to get a chance to start in the league this season.

Recent Form and Tactics

The Toffees haven’t lost a league game since a 3-2 loss to Aston Villa in mid-September. Their recent form has moved them up to 16th in the table, five points ahead of 18th-placed Crystal Palace.

Manager Sean Dyche stayed loyal to his 4-2-3-1 system during the team’s poor start to the season. The system aims to be defensively solid and threatening on the counter. The team has conceded just two goals over their last four games. In comparison, to start the term, Everton conceded 13 goals in their first four league games.

The addition of Ndiaye has given Everton a different edge in attack during this campaign. Dyche favourite McNiel has also been impressive in a new attacking midfield role. Jack Harrison is still waiting for his first goal or assist of the season but has beaten Jesper Lindstrom to a starting spot on the right.

Injuries To Consider

Everton “star” Branthwaite is set to return from a thigh injury this weekend. The young centre-back started in the 2-1 defeat of Crystal Palace but then reinjured his thigh and missed the next two games.

Tim Iroegbunam (Ankle), Youssef Chermiti (Foot), Armando Broja (Calf), and James Garner (back) all remain out. Lindstrom missed the game against Ipswich with an illness but should return against Fulham.
