Liverpool Earmark ‘Fantastic’ In-Form Premier League Star to Replace Mohamed Salah

Liverpool loan report

Liverpool managed to soar up to the top of the Premier League table with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Brighton at Anfield. Even though their Egyptian winger scored the winning goal, there remains uncertainty over his future and the Reds are monitoring potential Mohamed Salah replacements, including Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo.

Why Are Liverpool Interested In Mbeumo?

Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas has reported that the Reds are keeping their options open for the future when it comes to identifying and monitoring wingers if they need to replace Salah. His current contract expires at the end of June, 2025 and they might need to find a successor if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

Thomas further states that Arne Slot’s side have scouted both Brentford’s Mbeumo, and Bournemouth’s Semenyo. It’s claimed that Liverpool realise that they may need to sign a new forward in the 2025 summer window, and their interest in Semenyo is because he’s known to Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes from when Hughes signed him to the Cherries.

The journalist adds that Liverpool have been scouting Mbeumo for some time now after watching him impress for Brentford. It’s also stated that the Reds believe both these wingers have a similar playing profile as Salah in being dangerous and prolific anywhere across the front-three.

How Have Mbeumo and Semenyo Performed In 2024/25 Season?

The reason why Liverpool have earmarked these two wingers as possible Salah replacements is because of just how impressive they’ve performed in the ongoing 2024/25 season. Semenyo recently scored in Bournemouth’s 2-1 win over Manchester City and has four goals as well as an assist in ten Premier League appearances in this campaign.

Mbeumo, however, has been one of the best players in the Premier League so far this season. He’s scored a whopping eight goals in nine games so far and his impressive early goal in the 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur was hailed as “fantastic” by James Maddison. The 25-year-old winger has become Brentford’s driving force since Ivan Toney’s exit and has definitely proven his quality to play for a top team with his performances this season.
