How Aston Villa Have Lined up Recently

Unai Emery’s team selections throughout this season have been largely settled, albeit he’s been forced to tinker due to various injuries.

Nevertheless, even with huge clashes against Juventus and Chelsea to come this week, the lineup deployed here will have a familiar feel to it.

Aston Villa’s Recent Form and Tactics

The international break came at a good time for Aston Villa, who will be seeking to get back on track when Crystal Palace visit on Saturday.

The Claret and Blue Army come into this one having suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats for the first time since May 2023.

A fortnight ago, the Villans were defeated 2-0 by Liverpool at Anfield, having been hammered 4-1 by Spurs in North London a week earlier.

Also, in-between, their flawless Champions League record came to an end at the hands of Club Brugge, controversially defeated 1-0 at Jan Breydelstadion.

The only goal of the night in West Flanders came from the penalty spot, with Tyrone Mings giving away one of the most bizarre spot-kicks you’re ever likely to see.

Back in the Premier League, having won only one of their last six, Emery’s team have sunk from third to ninth, making it vitally important that they collect three points here.

Aston Villa Injuries to Consider

Matty Cash, who did not go away with Poland this week, as well as Ross Barkley are both expected to be fit.

In less good news, Ezri Konsa, Amadou Onana, Jacob Ramsey and Boubacar Kamara are all set to be sidelined.

Konsa was replaced at half time of England’s victory over Greece last Thursday.

So, without either Onana or Kamara, Barkley will be required, partnering Youri Tielemans at the base of midfield.

Lastly, John McGinn will be full of confidence, having scored during Scotland’s wins over both Croatia and then Poland last weekend.
