Ales Hemsky Signs With the Montreal Canadiens

After a year full of injuries, Ales Hemsky has decided to sign with the Montreal Canadiens for one-year. The deal is worth $1 million,He only played in 15 games last season with the Dallas Stars. He had to have surgery for a torn labrum in his hip that he suffered during the World Cup of Hockey. When Alexander Radulov left Montreal for the Stars, the Habs pounced on Hemsky as a possible replacement.

Ales Hemsky Signs With the Montreal Canadiens

Hemsky is a low risk high reward move as he’s been a good depth scorer throughout his career. Before getting hurt this season, he had 13 goals during the 2015-2016 season and then 11 the season before with the Stars.

He’s spent most of his career with the Edmonton Oilers who first drafted him and his best season goal scoring wise came in the 2008-2009 season. He scored 23 goals and had 66 points overall on an Edmonton team that just wasn’t very good. Possession wise he’s also been good throughout his career as he was a 54.1% player during the 2015-2016 season in Dallas. The year before that, he was 52.4%.

Getting Hemsky for a secondary scoring role is great. He can provide some more depth scoring which a team can never run out of. If injuries occur, then he can also be bumped up to the top six. He has a great track record of producing as a top six forward throughout his career. Hemsky can also be used on the power play as he also has a great track record of assisting on a ton of goals on the power play throughout his playing career. He may be 33 but he’s still got a lot left in the tank.
