Edmonton Oilers Adam Larsson Out with Injury, Evan Bouchard Recalled

Adam Larsson

The Edmonton Oilers announced Thursday that defenceman Adam Larsson has been placed on long-term injured reserve. The defender played in the Oilers opening night victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

Adam Larsson Injured

The injury appears to be an ankle injury. Larsson played 22:19 minutes last night in a three to two win over the Vancouver Canucks. He did not find the scoresheet but did register a shot on goal and four blocked shots.

Larsson is entering his fourth season with the Oilers, after starting his career with the New Jersey Devils. The defender was picked by the Devils with the fourth overall pick of the 2011 NHL Draft. The Oilers acquired the defender in a swap for Taylor Hall. Larsson has played 225 games for the Oilers, registering 11 goals and 41 assists for a total of 52 points.

Evan Bouchard Recalled

With the injury to Larsson, the Oilers are forced to bring up players to fill the holes in the roster. In conjunction with the injury announcement, the Oilers also stated that they had recalled defender Evan Bouchard.

The rearguard will get his first full-time crack at the NHL and enters with a successful pedigree. The Oilers drafted Bouchard with the 10th overall pick of the 2018 NHL entry draft. The defender played a 7-game tryout for the Oilers last season, scoring his first NHL goal in the process.

Bouchard has spent the last four seasons playing for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. The defender served as the captain for the Knights last year and experienced a productive season. Bouchard scored 16 goals and recorded 37 assists in 45 games. He ratcheted his production even further in the playoffs, scoring four goals and 17 assists in 11 games.

Ethan Bear Assigned to Bakersfield Condors

The Edmonton Oilers have also assigned defender Ethan Bear to the Bakersfield Condors. Bear played the first game of 2019-20 but has had issues staying in the NHL. The Oilers’ fifth-round pick of the 2015 draft played 18 games in the 2017-18 season but spent all last year in Bakersfield.
