Thomas Chabot Injured
Half-way through the first period against the Montreal Canadiens, Thomas Chabot chased down a loose puck in his defensive zone. At the same time, Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher was seen chasing after it as well. The two found themselves tangled with each other, running into the boards awkwardly.
Chabot’s knee smashed into the boards at a weird angle. He dropped down and later hobbled toward the bench. Shortly after, Chabot returned for a few test laps to see how it felt. Yet, he would not return.
So far this season, Chabot has scored five goals and 28 assists for 33 points to go along with 36 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers are 49.2 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of 2.2.
Over his four-year NHL career, Chabot has played for only the Senators. He has 28 goals and 85 assists for 113 career points in 195 career games. He was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the first round, 18th overall in the 2015 NHL draft.
It has now been reported that his injury is nothing serious.
DJ Smith says the team believes the injury to Thomas Chabot is “nothing major.”

What This Means for the Future
At the beginning of the season, Chabot signed a very comfortable eight-year contract with an average annual value of $8 million per year. That established the young defenceman as their main guy on the back-end. The Senators are a very young team with a bright future ahead of them. Losing Chabot for an extended period of time would been a major blow moving forward.
The Senators are at the bottom of the barrel in the standings, totalling 53 points. The Senators hold the 29th position in the standings with 20 games remaining on their schedule. Trade rumours have been swirling around the team.
