Sam Reinhart Re-Signs With Buffalo Sabres

Sam Reinhart

The Buffalo Sabres have signed 24-year-old centre Sam Reinhart to a one-year deal worth $5.2 million.

Sam Reinhart Agrees to Contract with Buffalo Sabres

In 2014, the Buffalo Sabres drafted Reinhart with the second overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft. While Reinhart hasn’t exactly lived up to the billing of a second overall choice, he has been a very solid contributor. With 255 points in 400 career games, he is still a very solid second-line player. While his natural position is centre, he has a history of playing top-line minutes on Jack Eichel‘s right-wing.

Throughout his career, Sam Reinhart is a proven two-way player. He can score goals, make the pretty pass, and he can play in the defensive zone. In his five full NHL seasons with the Sabres, Reinhart has never had a negative Relative Corsi For rating. He set his career-high in 2014-15 with a rating of 6.3. This past season, he appeared to find his scoring touch, shooting a career-high 15.3 percent. While his goal total is middle of the pack for his career, he should have set a career-high with 26 had he played a full 82-game season.

Reinhart was playing at a bargain rate for Buffalo. In the past two years, the franchise had been paying him $3.65 million per season. While that number is nothing to scoff at, it is still nothing compared to what other players of his calibre are making. A player with his point totals typically makes somewhere around $5 million to $6 million. Now he has gotten his pay raise. Reinhart must be hoping that he can win a Stanley Cup with his new contract. In all his time with Buffalo, they have yet to make the playoffs. Now that he has signed his next contract, a title will be the first thing on his mind. Reinhart is hoping with all new additions in Buffalo the Sabres can reach the promise. Not to mention with a one-year deal Reinhart is betting on himself to have a good year.
