Buffalo Sabres Sign Goaltender Craig Anderson

Craig Anderson Retiring; NHL rumours

With Linus Ullmark signing with the Boston, and Carter Hutton signing in Arizona, the Sabres found themselves without an experienced NHL goalie on Wednesday. They fixed that on Wednesday night, signing one of the most experienced goalies on the market. The Sabres and 40-year-old goalie Craig Anderson agreed on a one-year deal for $750,000.00.

Craig Anderson Signs With the Buffalo Sabres

In Anderson, the Sabres get an experienced goalie who will act as a leader for their young defence next season. Anderson has played 18 NHL Seasons for the Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators, and Washington Capitals. In 652 career games, Anderson has a 291-252-69 record. He has a career 2.84 goals-against-average, .913 save percentage and 42 shutouts.

Anderson played for the Washington Capitals last season. He put up a 2-1-0 record in four games. Anderson had a 2.13 goals-against-average and .915 save percentages. He also played two games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, going 1-1. He had a 2.67 goals-against-average and .929 save percentage.

The Sabres will need to find another goalie to team with Anderson next year. He is clearly slowing down and it will be difficult for him to handle a starter’s workload. The Sabres have an excellent goalie prospect in Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. However, it is unclear if the 22-year-old is NHL ready today. The Sabres need to improve their goaltending if they are going to get out of the NHL basement next season.
