NHL Predictions: February 27th, Including Edmonton Oilers vs Carolina Hurricanes

Welcome back to another day of NHL Predictions. Each day, Last Word on Hockey takes a look at the games that are happening and gives our predictions for each one, breaking down head-to-head and other factors that may play in. We also have a featured game of the day, which is considered must-watch TV. Today’s featured game is the Edmonton Oilers vs Carolina Hurricanes.

NHL Predictions With Edmonton Oilers vs Carolina Hurricanes

Edmonton Oilers vs Carolina Hurricanes

Head-to-Head: Oilers 0 – 1 Hurricanes

After losing two games in a row, the Edmonton Oilers bounced back with an impressive win over the Florida Panthers. In that contest, Derek Ryan was the hero, scoring his first career hat trick to earn the Oilers their one-goal victory. As usual, both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were heavily involved. McDavid had two assists, and Draisaitl recorded a goal of his own.

The Carolina Hurricanes, too, have found success, as they’ve once again worked their way to the top of their division. With a four-game win streak under their belts, they are also beginning to separate themselves from the rest of the Metropolitan. In the Hurricanes’ last contest, Frederik Anderson shut out the Columbus Blue Jackets. Carolina will need him to continue to stand tall against Edmonton’s elite forwards. Additionally, keep an eye on Nino Niederreiter, who has five points through his last five games.

Because of their star-powered offence, the Oilers can never really be counted out – but the Hurricanes’ defence and goaltending should give them the edge in this matchup.

Prediction: Hurricanes win, 6-2

Buffalo Sabres vs Dallas Stars

Head-to-Head: Sabres 0 – 1 Stars

Right now, the Dallas Stars are chasing the Nashville Predators for fourth in the Central Division. On the other hand, the Buffalo Sabres have sunk near the bottom of the Atlantic amidst a five-game losing streak. During that stretch, Kyle Okposo has logged four goals and an assist. For Dallas, Joe Pavelski has six points through his last five games. He also leads his team in both assists and points. Though the Stars appear to be the better team, they have been struggling against lesser opponents recently. They should be able to eke out a win but expect it to be a close game.

Prediction: Stars win, 3-2

St. Louis Blues vs Chicago Blackhawks

Head-to-Head: Blues 2 – 1 Blackhawks

The St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks are two teams at opposite ends of the Central Division. While St. Louis is in second, Chicago sits second to last. Both teams carry momentum into this contest, with the Blues on a three-game win streak and the Blackhawks fresh off a victory of their own. For Chicago, both Patrick Kane and Brandon Hagel recorded hat tricks against the New Jersey Devils. On St. Louis’s end, watch out for Justin Faulk, who has logged five assists through his last five games. The Blues should get the win in this contest.

Prediction: Blues win, 4-2

Winnipeg Jets vs Arizona Coyotes

Head-to-Head: Jets 1 – 1 Coyotes

Though the Winnipeg Jets sit higher in the standings than the Arizona Coyotes, they have a four-game losing streak to Arizona’s recent win. The two teams are tied in the head-to-head, but last time they faced off, the Jets walked away with a win. Kyle Connor has five points for Winnipeg through his last five games. In the Coyotes’ last contest, Nick Schmaltz scored two goals, bringing his total to seven points through his most recent five games. With the Jets struggling as of late, Arizona has a good chance to get another win.

Prediction: Coyotes win, 2-1
