It’s Tuesday and we’ve got more NHL rumours for you. The trade deadline is coming soon and teams are making moves for the big day. We’ll have plenty of NHL rumours until then and likely after that. Today’s rumours feature the Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders.
All NHL rumours come for the original source and are subject to change.
NHL Rumours
Vancouver Canucks
Rumour: Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff said there’s a “50/50” chance that Brock Boeser gets traded. Seravalli adds it may be at the deadline or during the off-season.

Analysis: New Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin will have some decisions to make pretty soon. The former University of North Dakota product is in the last year of his deal. Boeser currently makes $5.875 million a season and is a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
The 25-year-old will likely want a raise and find money could be an issue as it is for many teams. Boeser is arbitration eligible and has been a 15-plus goal-scorer for the Canucks. However, Vancouver will get back $3 million in cap space from the Roberto Luongo cap recapture penalty. They’ll also hopefully get another $1 million from the cap going up in all likelihood.
Boeser could be dangled for a young defenceman and would be a good asset. He seems to have overtaken J.T. Miller in trade chatter and has appeared on plenty of trade bait boards.
Philadelphia Flyers
Rumour: Elliotte Friedman gave an update on what teams are interested in landing Flyers’ captain Claude Giroux. He gave this update on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast.

Analysis: This is an update to what Friedman reported on Saturday during Hockey Night in Canada. That report stated the Florida Panthers may be interested and Flyers were scouting Owen Tippett. Philadelphia will likely ask for a high price before parting with a player Giroux. Tippett would likely get an opportunity with the Flyers because the Panthers’ lineup is loaded.
Freidman added that the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers also interested in the veteran forward. The Sportsnet insider said that both the Rangers and Bruins have “kicked the tires” on Giroux. It’s been previously reported that the Colorado Avalanche have been in the mix of this year’s All-Star Game MVP for quite a while.

Dealing Giroux would give the Flyers salary cap flexibility and probably a haul of assets. Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher will try for the best deal, but he’s got plenty of suitors for Giroux.
New York Islanders
Rumour: Kevin Kurz of The Athletic talked to Islanders General Manager Lou Lamoriello about what may be in store at the trade deadline.
Mailbag was delayed a bit because of the Lou availabiity in Denver, but it will be up tomorrow morning. Lots of good Qs to choose from.

Analysis: It’s been a disappointing season after making the last four in the last two straight post-seasons. Injuries, COVID outbreaks and struggles on defence have doomed the Isles to likely miss their first post-season since 2017-18.
Lamoriello admits this season has been a struggle, but he likes the core group they have. He doesn’t believe their needs to be a complete rebuild, but does acknowledge there may be some deals to be made. He’ll likely ignore the calls to try and deal Josh Bailey and others.
However, it’s going to be something to reshuffle the deck. Lamoriello has been known to make moves to shake up the lineup when things haven’t been going well. The Islanders would like to upgrade on defence as they’ve looked kind of slow in the department.
New York also seemingly misses the likes of Devon Toews and Nick Leddy on the blue line. The pair may not grab headlines like Ryan Pulock and Adam Pelech. However, the Isles backend has been a problem and Lamoriello will want to fix that.
