NHL Rumours: Toronto Maple Leafs Forward on Trade Board

Alexander Kerfoot trade

It’s Saturday and this means we’ve got another edition of NHL trade rumours. We’re less than a week away from the NHL trade deadline coming on March 3. General managers are trying to optimize their lineups and stretch every dollar. One of those teams against the cap is the Toronto Maple Leafs. Players like Matt Murray are coming back into the lineup and the Leafs have to make something happen. Today’s NHL rumours talks about a possible Alexander Kerfoot trade.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

Alexander Kerfoot on Trade List

Rumour: Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff had Kerfoot as No. 17 on his trade board that came out on Thursday. Kerfoot is currently on the fourth line and he makes $3.5 million. Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas doesn’t really want to move anyone currently on the roster. However, there are some impending moves that need to be made.

Murray is close to coming back to the lineup and the Leafs have to move money to get Toronto under the cap. Dubas does have options like moving Justin Holl. However, the Leafs are trying to find a way to upgrade on defence. Moving a forward would be something that Dubas would be willing to do.

Will Alexander Kerfoot Trade Happen?

Pierre Engvall has been a fairly good depth option and he’s a cheaper option than Kerfoot. Engvall only makes $2.25 million for Toronto and moving Kerfoot would give Dubas a bit of flexibility.

Adding Murray does help Toronto’s depth in net even though Ilya Samsonov has done fairly well in goal. The Leafs want to find a replacement defender as Jake Muzzin is out for the rest of the season. Getting Kerfoot’s contract off the books would be a good way to help make some cap room for Toronto to make a move.
