After a disastrous season, the Columbus Blue Jackets have their new bench boss. Taking the reins and leading the charge is Mike Babcock. Things can not get any worse than last season for the club. This move signals that brighter days are ahead.
Blue Jackets Name Next Head Coach
Last year was a complete mess for the Blue Jackets. After all the buzz and hype that was around Johnny Gaudreau, a promising season was in line. After seeing impact players walk away from the franchise, they did manage to land one. However, that was not the case and injuries plagued the team, but also the uninspired-looking play on the ice. Columbus was lacking structure and ultimately was one of the worst teams in all of hockey last season. However, there is room for optimism with this new hire. The Columbus Blue Jackets coach has plenty to work with.
The Fit In Columbus
It is easy to laugh at Columbus given the way that their season went. However, the new Columbus Blue Jackets coach has experience. Babcock has previous coaching experience with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In addition, his coaching record is 700-418-19-64, while also being a member of the triple gold club. It is a comforting thing to have and to see. It can only go up from here right?
There is a lot to be desired with wanting to coach this team. The foundation is in place and there is lots to work with. A core group led by Johnny Gaudreau, Boone Jenner, Zach Werenski, and Patrick Laine has potential. Not to mention Kent Johnson is an emerging young player. Elvis Merzlinkins is in line to have a better season as well. The pieces are in place, but a new voice is exactly what can get this group going. In a competitive division, Columbus has a lot of ground to cover.
