There is news regarding the Winnipeg Jets Head Coach Rick Bowness as he is taking a leave of absence from the club. On Sunday evening, his wife, Judy Bowness, suffered a seizure. She remains in hospital and is undergoing tests. At this time, we all hope for the best for Judy. Rick has gone to be with her in the hospital.

The message around the club since the news came in is one of support and care. Mark Scheifele commented on his coach and what is priority. “First and foremost they’re amazing human beings and that always comes first,” Scheifele said. Scott Arniel will fill in as the interim head coach in the meantime. He shared the message of all: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Judy and Rick.” As you can tell, hockey takes a back seat for the Jets organization and the entire hockey community at these times.

What Does This Mean for the Winnipeg Jets

Hopefully, the club can be motivated and get back to hockey with the difficult news for Judy and Rick Bowness. They want the team to do their best in this time. The Jets are currently struggling on and off the ice. On the ice, they are 2-3 on the season. Which granted isn’t horrible, but it does put them in second last in the Central Division standings. Off the ice, the team is finding it difficult to attract crowds. Therefore, the team needs to look within at this time. They need to find something to play for and be inspired.  With stars Connor Hellebuyck and Mark Scheifele each signing big seven-year deals in the offseason. Thus, the pieces are in place for this team to build around. For now, we all in the hockey world wish Judy Bowness a sound recovery and our thoughts remain with the family.
