Jacob Markstrom has an injury and Dustin Wolf has been recalled in Calgary Flames goaltender news. The team announced today, Tuesday, that Markstrom has a fractured finger and will be sidelined week-to-week. Furthermore, this means that they had to recall Dustin Wolf from the Calgary Wranglers, the club’s AHL affiliate. You never know when opportunity will knock, and maybe it has for Wolf.

Goaltender Markstrom Has an Injury So Wolf is Recalled
Markstrom has to be disappointed with this and you have to feel for him. His team isn’t playing to expectations and now he will have to watch from the sidelines. Calgary currently sits 10th in the Western Conference standings, and a game below .500 at 10-11-3. Moreover, for Markstrom, his play has not been strong enough to help propel his team when they needed it. At 6-8-2, a .896 save percentage, and 2.94 goals-against-average, the time on the shelf will come as needed rest and refocus.
The Flames Do Have Options
The Flames are far from desperate as they do have a competent backup in Dan Vladar. Vladar’s numbers are no better, despite a decent 4-2-1 record, he sports a lacklustre .883 save percentage. Therefore, this seems to be a calling for their highly-touted prospect, Dustin Wolf.
So How Good Can Dustin Wolf Be? How Great?
Now, it is not a certainty that Wolf sees much action. However, he does need to be rewarded for his sample of work at the AHL level. The 22-year-old sure does glow, as evidenced by his sparkling numbers. In the past two full seasons in the AHL, he has had seasons of a .924 and a .932 save percentage, respectively. His career AHL record is an astonishing 87-23-6. It is time to give him the starter keys. Thus far, he had one career game in the show, which unfortunately was a 4-1 loss at the hands of the Ottawa Senators. In contrast, if he sees more availability to play over the next short term, he will have the confidence to flourish. We are all excited to see what he can do.
