The San Jose Sharks announced today that they have signed forward Tyler Toffoli to a contract. He split time between the Devils and the Jets during the 2023-24 season. Toffoli, acquired from the Calgary Flames last offseason, put together a nice 2023-24 campaign for the Devils. Details are that he will be with the club for four years and will make $6 million per season.
Tyler Toffoli Signs Contract in San Jose
Toffoli has been a reliable top-six scoring winger for the majority of his career. He put up a career-high in goals and assists with Calgary before being traded and followed it up with another productive year. In a bad year for the Devils, Toffoli was a lone bright spot and his goalscoring will be valuable once the team finds their rhythm again. Even when he was part of the Jets, he was a valuable asset to their lineup. Now he can bring those talents to the Sharks, who need a stable veteran presence.
What Does This Mean
This Tyler Toffoli contract makes sense for the Sharks. Even with General Manager Mike Grier trading away key players, the young group needs a stable veteran. Will Smith did sign his entry level contract and Macklin Celebrini is going to be a focal point of this teams offensive attack.
The Sharks are a young team and enter a rebuild. With adding Toffoli, they are adding a veteran presence, leader, and a reliable goal scorer in the lineup. He is no stranger in that regard and brings a huge boost to the lineup. Whether it’s even strength or the power play, this is a great add for the Sharks. Toffoli joins Logan Couture as a veteran leader and can help guide this young team to where they want to get to. Overall, this is a good deal for both sides and Toffoli gets the security he’s been looking for.
