Star New York Rangers left-winger Artemi Panarin will not be coming back to tonights game. The 32-year-old Calder Memorial Trophy winner (2015-16) had been the first-line left-winger on the New York Rangers warmup lines for tonights game according to Mollie Walker of The New York Post on X this evening.
The Blueshirts star player was joined in the game by multiple fellow NHL-star Rangers. They face a New Jersey Devils team whose main roster is currently in Czechia for the 2024 NHL Global Series. The Rangers NHLers include his starting linemates tonight, centreman Vincent Trocheck and winger Alexis Lafreniere.
News Recap of Star New York Rangers Left-Winger
Panarin only played 02:25 in tonights game and four shifts, before heading to the locker room during the first period. At the beginning of the second period, the Rangers ruled him out for the rest. Previously, he left the Rangers September 24 preseason game against their other rival the New York Islanders, out of precaution, with a lower-body injury. He did skate on Thursday, September 26 at MSG Training Center, and said he was “fine.” But Panarin did not skate in that days home game against the Boston Bruins as a precaution. Rangers Head Coach Peter Laviolette had said, according to Walkers September 25 X post, he hoped Panarin would play another preseason contest.
Other NHL Preseason Injuries
Artemi Panarins lower-body injury is one of multiple in the NHL preseason so far, including teammate Ryan Lindgren, who is out for a few weeks due to an upper-body injury and Los Angeles Kings defenceman Drew Doughty who is out “month to month” due to a fractured ankle. Also, a knee-on-knee hit from Isles defenceman Scott Mayfield sent Blueshirts teammate and centre Filip Chytil off the ice temporarily during the September 24 game against the Isles, although Chytil later returned and scored.
We will provide updates on Panarin as they become available.
