NHL Rumour: Veteran Forward Shows Interest in Vancouver Canucks

Milan Lucic contract

It’s time for another round of NHL rumours to start your week. The Vancouver Canucks missed out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs and will be making some changes. General manager Patrik Allvin will have some tough choices and will likely bring in some new players. There are a number of free agents that will be on the market. One free agent in particular was asked about returning to his hometown of Vancouver. This edition of NHL Rumours looks at a possible Milan Lucic contract with the Canucks.

Milan Lucic Contract Future Update

Rumour: Lucic was on the Donnie & Dhali Show and got asked if he would play for the Canucks. Lucic said his focus was on helping Team Canada win the IIHF World Championship, but that has shifted. Lucic is an unrestricted free agent for the first time in a long time after coming off a giant seven-year contract.

The veteran forward wants to be on a winning team and that will factor into his decision. However, the 34-year-old would listen if the hometown Canucks showed interest.

“Obviously, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. It’s always a dream for a hometown boy to play for his hometown team. So, would definitely listen to what they have to say if they came calling,” Lucic said.

Will Canucks Offer Milan Lucic a Contract?

Lucic won’t get a monster deal like he did the last time he was a free agent. However, he can provide some veteran leadership to a team that needs it.

The lure of playing at home is always a tempting one. Lucic already has one Stanley Cup and has had a long career in the league. Playing at home in front of family and friends could be a great way to cap his career. However, it’s hard to say where the veteran forward will go on July 1.
