Dallas Stars Trade RFA Centre

Ty Dellandrea re-signed

News broke that centre Ty Dellandrea has been traded. He has been traded to the San Jose Sharks for a 2025 fourth round pick. The Stars opt to move on and the Sharks add a depth player to the group.

Ty Dellandrea Traded by Dallas Stars

Dellandrea has only played for the Stars over his four-year NHL career. He netted two goals and seven assists for nine points in 42 games this season. The Toronto native had a Corsi for of 45.6 and a relative Corsi of -9.4

He has 14 goals and 28 assists for 42 points in 151 career games. Dallas originally drafted him in the first round, 13th overall of the 2018 NHL Draft.

Dellandrea has played for his native Canada at the international level. He’s won gold in the Hlinka-Gretzky Tournament in 2018 and was part of the winning 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship squad.

He was on the second line during the 2022-23 season alongside Tyler Seguin and Mason Marchment. However, game time was harder to come by this season.

What It Means

With Ty Dellandrea traded, there is good upside for the Sharks. The 23-year-old former Flint Firebirds standout was in-and-out of the lineup this season under head coach Peter DeBoer. Dellandrea played in all 82 games in the 2022-23 season, but he only played in half the games in 2023-24.

He was a healthy scratch for a number of games this season, but there’s hope he can finally re-establish his place in the lineup. Dellandrea was playing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but was scratched in favour of rookie Mavrik Bourque for Game 6 of the Western Conference Final against the Edmonton Oilers.

Maybe this year will finally be a step forward for the highly-touted forward. Sustained game-time is what he’s seeking and some of the lineup changes may allow Dellandrea to finally receive that.
