F2: Hungary Preview, Predictions and How to Watch

Theo Pourchaire - F2

F2 returns to Hungary for the final race before the mid-season break. Are we now looking at a three-horse race for the championship?

Last time out we had a new F2 winner in Ayumu Iwasa who dominated the field to take the Feature Race win in France. Felipe Drugovich still retains a healthy lead in the championship. However, the home hero Theo Pourchaire outscored the championship leader and retook second in the standings. Logan Sargeant was knocked back down to third after a disappointing weekend but he’ll be looking to bounce back!

Those further back are looking to keep pace with the leaders but with only 10 races left over 5 weekends, it’s looking good for those upfront. It’ll be a busy weekend at the Hungaroring with F1, F2, F3, and the W Series all racing at the circuit.

The Circuit – Hungaroring:

The circuit is 4.381-km and features 14 turns. It is a very flowing track with few straights meaning overtaking opportunities are at a premium. This puts extra emphasis on Friday’s qualifying to start as high up the grid as possible.

The weather forecast is for it to be very hot just like in France. However, there is a strong chance of having a short sharp shower at some point every day. If we do have the rain during an F2 session then expect excitement and potentially a few mistakes!

F2 Championship Standings

Drivers

With the races counting down so is the points gap from Drugovich back to the chasing pack. The season certainly isn’t over yet and anything could happen. Pourchaire and Sargeant can’t take the lead from this race alone but if Drugovich doesn’t score the points could be very close by the end of Sunday.

  1. Felipe Drugovich – 173 points
  2. Theo Pourchaire – 134 points
  3. Logan Sargeant – 116 points
  4. Jehan Daruvala – 94 points

Teams

  1. ART Grand Prix – 209 points
  2. MP Motorsport – 199 points
  3. Carlin – 195 points
  4. Prema Racing – 161 points

Feature Race Predictions

With the nature of this track and the potential difficulty in overtaking then it is all going to be down to qualifying performance to get you up the front. Therefore, we need to be looking at the drivers who have generally been able to exact more over a single lap.

Podium predictions:

  1. Theo Pourchaire
  2. Jack Doohan
  3. Logan Sargeant
