F1 Roundtable: Belgian Grand Prix (Spa) Predictions

F1 - Belgian Grand Prix - Spa

Sports Events Guide is launching a new reoccurring F1 series – the predictions roundtable! Up first is the Belgian Grand Prix (Spa).

Welcome to what is hopefully the first of many LWOS F1 Prediction Roundtables. We start this week with the Belgian Grand Prix. The idea is simple, various writers from the staff give us their race winner, the drivers that fill out their podium, and a surprise result of the weekend.

Race Winner

  • Arturo – Charles Leclerc
  • Evan – Lewis Hamilton
  • Gabe – Max Verstappen
  • Jack – Max Verstappen
  • Justin – Max Verstappen
  • Nathan – Charles Leclerc
  • Yara – Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen leads the way with four picks as the race winner with his main Championship protagonist, Charles Leclerc, behind him with two. Evan believes that Sunday will be the day that Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes finally land their first win of the season.

The Podium

  • Arturo – Lewis Hamilton & Carlos Sainz
  • Evan – Charles Leclerc & Max Verstappen
  • Gabe – Charles Leclerc & Esteban Ocon
  • Jack – Lewis Hamilton & Sergio Perez
  • Justin – Sergio Perez & Charles Leclerc
  • Nathan – Max Verstappen & Lewis Hamilton
  • Yara – Lewis Hamilton & Charles Leclerc

There is a clear consensus that regardless of where they finish on the podium that Verstappen, Leclerc, and Hamilton are the favorites. That trio makes up 17 of the potential 21 podium spots from the week’s predictions. Two believe that it’ll be a Red Bull dominate weekend with Perez landing in the top three, while Arturo opted for the Ferrari teammate instead. But it’s the Esteban Ocon pick by Gabe that really stands out, and no, that wasn’t his bold prediction for the weekend.

Surprise Result

  • Arturo – Latifi gets his first F1 points of the season
  • Evan – Alex Albon finishes in the points
  • Gabe – Yuki Tsunoda finish fifth
  • Jack – Lance Stroll finishes in the top 6
  • Justin – Zhou Guanyu gets a points finish
  • Nathan – Both Aston Martin cars finish in the points
  • Yara – Both Haas cars end up in the top 10

Driver X or both drivers from team Y land in the points seems to be the general path this week. However, there are some real contenders here for the bold pick of the week. Is it Lance Stroll finishing in 6th? Yuki Tsunoda in 5th? I’m not sure what happened in a Grand Prix to have Stroll-Tsunoda come 5/6th, but I’d like to watch it. But Nicholas Latifi in the top ten? That might be the biggest surprise of them all and one that would be well to see considering he is the only primary driver without points this season.

Now we would like to know your thoughts ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix. Sign up for LWOS’ comment system below and give us your race winner, podium, and surprise result.
