2023 Formula 3 Driver Lineup: Oliver Goethe to Trident

Oliver Goethe

Trident Racing have announced their second driver for the 2023 Formula 3 season in form of 2022 Euroformula Open Champion Oliver Goethe.

Eighteen-year-old Danish driver Oliver Goethe has been announced as Trident’s second for the 2023 season. He will be partnered with Gabriel Bortoleto after winning the Euroformula Open Championship this past October. This will be Goethe’s first full season in Formula 3 after serving as a substitute for Hunter Yeany in a few rounds during the 2022 season. He is the ninth driver to be announced for next season’s grid.

The 2022 campaign

Goethe’s 2022 season started off well as he joined MotoPark Academy for the Euroformula Open season. Taking pole for the first race, Goethe initially lost a few places before recovering to finish third. Goethe would go on to win the second round at the Portuguese Grand Prix and begin a dominant campaign where he took eleven wins and twelve podiums – winning the championship by fifty-seven points.

During the 2022 Formula 3 Austrian Grand Prix, Yeany suffered a broken wrist as a result of a collision. Goethe was announced as his replacement for the Hungarian and Belgian Grand Prix racing for Campos. Goethe would quickly impress his new team, securing pole for the Sprint Race in Hungary and securing his first points. He qualified and finished fourth in the Feature Race at the Belgian Grand Prix. Crucially, Goethe managed to out-qualify both his teammates – David Vidales and Pepe Marti. He then took part in the 2022 Formula 3 post-season testing.

Following the announcement, Goethe stated:

“I am delighted to join Trident for my first full season in FIA F3. I drove with the team in Jerez, and it was a great experience. They are very professional and have achieved some great success in this championship. I know we are capable of some good results together, and I can’t wait to get the season started.”

Giacomo Ricci (Team Manager at Trident) added:

“Oliver Goethe is without a doubt a promising young driver. We are extremely proud to have him in our line-up for 2023 in FIA Formula 3 Championship and we look forward to a new season together. We were impressed by his debut in the category last season and by the excellent work done by the German-Danish driver’s technical staff during the postseason Test in Jerez last September.”
