Rodin Carlin has announced their first driver for the inaugural F1 Academy as Jessica Edgar steps up after making her debut last year.
Seventeen-year-old Jessica Edgar has been announced as the first driver to be representing Rodin Carlin for the F1 Academy. She is the third driver to be announced for the upcoming campaign.
2022 season
Edgar made her karting debut at the tender age of five and is the cousin of Formula 3 driver Jonny Edgar. In 2021, she joined the FIA Girls on Tracks Rising Stars Programme.
Edgar made her single-seater debut in 2022 after finishing 13th in the 2021 British Kart Championship. For 2022, she raced in the inaugural UK-based GB4 Championship with Fortec Motorsport. Edgar was partnered with Nikolas Taylor, Carl Bennett, and Elias Adestam. Bennett and Adestam would finish 21st and 11th in the standings while Taylor claimed the title. Edgar finished seventh in the standings with 269 points after scoring regularly and even claiming a second-place finish at Oulton Park during the third race.

Following the announcement, Edgar stated:
“I’m very happy to have signed with Rodin Carlin for F1 Academy. As soon as I heard about the series; the backing of Formula One and the teams and people involved I was extremely keen to be part of this first historic season. I know the Rodin Carlin team pretty well and to go into this first season together is a dream come true. I’m really excited to get the season underway.”
Stephanie Carlin (Team Principal of Rodin Carlin) added:
“We’re very proud to announce our first driver in F1 Academy ahead of what we expect to be an exciting and historic season. Jess was already well known to us, and the opportunity to work with her in F1 Academy came at exactly the right time in her career.”
2023 Driver Lineup
Despite this being her second season in single-seaters, it is evidenced by her GB4 performance that Edgar is capable of success. With a strong team in Rodin Carlin and a strong driver in Edgar, is it too early to put her in title contention?
