It has been a whirlwind 72 for Stefan Wilson and the whole team over at Dryer & Reinbold Racing/Cusick Motorsports.
In a scary incident that occurred Monday during one of the final practices for Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 involving Stefan Wilson, it has been announced that he will not be allowed to compete this Sunday.
During Monday’s practice session, fellow Brit & Rahal Letterman Lanigan driver Katherine Legge made contact with Wilson and his No. 24 Chevrolet in Turn 1, which sent both cars into the outside wall. Legge’s car bounced off the barrier as it continued down to the track and made contact with another barrier in Turn 2
Legg was able to climb out of her car without assistance and was evaluated and released from the IU Health Emergency Medical Center, while Wilson, who was conscious and alert, was transported by ambulance to the IU Health Methodist Hospital for further testing.

In a statement later in the day around 7:45 PM, by Dreyer & Reinbold Racing/Cusick Motorsports it was announced that Wilson would not be able to compete in this Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 due to Wilson having a fracture of his 12th thoracic vertebrae and will remain overnight at the IU Health Methodist Hospital for further tests and observation.
“Based on this type of injury, Wilson will not be allowed to compete in this Sunday’s 107th Indianapolis 500 Mile Race,” the team’s statement read. “The Dreyer & Reinbold Racing/Cusick Motorsports team will have more information in due course.”

Wilson, who qualified 25th at 231.648 mph Saturday and was poised to make his fifth career Indianapolis 500 start.
