Has Aaron Rodgers Returned to MVP Form?

The 2020-2021 NFL season has started and fans can rejoice as Aaron Rodgers has returned to MVP form following a Week 1 win.

The 2020 NFL season has started amidst a global pandemic. This year has brought on a lot of negative change during the pandemic but one positive change Green Bay Packers fans can be happy about is the return of MVP-form Aaron Rodgers.

Aaron Rodgers Showing Hints of Returning to MVP Form

Week 1

During Week 1, the Green Bay Packers faced division rival Minnesota Vikings and everyone around the country expected this game to be close. Nobody, however, expected Aaron Rodgers to go back in time and show he is still a very worthy MVP candidate. Aaron Rodgers threw for 364 yards and four touchdowns in a 43-34 epic win. This was a sign. A sign that the real deal Aaron Rodgers is back. Reports had surfaced in the off-season of Rodgers watching his 2010-2011 tape and making adjustments this season to how he used to play. By the way, in 2010-2011, Rodgers threw for 4,643 yards, 45 touchdowns, and only six interceptions and had a quarterback rating of 122. If Rodgers saw something in that tape and made adjustments this past off-season, then the rest of the NFL should be absolutely terrified of what Rodgers potentially has in store for the rest of the season.

A Reality Check

Now, before the MVP hype builds too much, I do want to bring in a reality check. Only Week 1 is complete so there is still the entire rest of the season for things to possibly not go as planned. Injuries could occur and it is unlikely Rodgers dishes out this stellar of a performance for 17-20 consecutive weeks. Not to mention, the Packers were facing a completely overhauled Vikings secondary that was no older than the age of 25 and most of whom had never faced Rodgers before. This was the equivalent of Tiger Woods going and playing in a First Tee tournament against eighth-graders. It just wasn’t a fair matchup at all. Rodgers and the Packers will face much tougher tests throughout the season such as the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But, the potential for an MVP season has never been greater over the last five years for Rodgers. He was making risky throws on Sunday, the kind of risky throws that doom opposing teams and make announcers wonder if they just watched David Copperfield live. Rodgers looked loose and comfortable, which he has not looked for at least three or four years.

Rodgers is healthy, his receivers have finally developed and his offensive line is one of the best in the league. The buzz surrounding Rodgers for an MVP season is palpable, and fans could not be more excited to watch it all unfold.
