Parris Campbell, New York Giants, Agree to Contract
In the 2019 NFL Draft, the Colts selected Campbell 59th overall in the second round out of Ohio State. There, Campbell was an integral part of the Urban Meyer offense. Over his three years in Columbus, Campbell hauled in 143 passes for 1,768 yards and 12 touchdowns. At OSU, Campbell was an offensive weapon and a home run threat and finished his career with a 1,000+ yard, 12-touchdown season.
The Colts took Campbell in the second round with hopes that he would be that big-play threat. It was not to be. As a rookie, Campbell appeared in just seven games, recording a grand total of 18 receptions off of 24 targets, 127 yards and a touchdown. He battled injuries throughout the year including a sports hernia, broken hand, and a broken foot that landed him on the season-ending IR.
In his second year, it looked like he was about to break out. In Week 1, Campell recorded a solid six receptions for 71 yards. However, in Week 2, he tore his MCL and PCL, thus ending his season early.
In year three, Campbell experiened more of the same. He finished with 10 rececptions, 162 yards, and a touchdown. He appeared in just six games and missed time with an Abdomen injury and a signficant foot sprain.
It was make-or-break time for Campbell in 2022. After three years of struggling to stay healthy and available, Campbell finally put together a full season’s worth of playing time, appearing in all 17 games. On the year, he reeled in 63 passes for 623 yards and three touchdowns. By far, his most productive game of his career came in a Week 7 loss to the Tennessee Titans where he recorded 10 receptions for 70 yards and a score.
Injury concerns are legitimate with Campbell. Regardless, there is still a belief that he can be a productive member of the wide receiver room and compliment the offense.
