Chances of a Haason Reddick Trade
The Philadelphia Eagles Offseason could be a tricky one in just a few weeks. Eagles star pass-rusher, Haason Reddick, has been reportedly allowed to find a trade this offseason in a bit of a surprise. There were slight hints at this being a possibility last season, but it seems as if the Eagles are prepared to let go of Reddick for the right offer this offseason. However, it’s important to note that it needs to be the right offer for the team.
General Manager Howie Roseman isn’t in the business of selling short on his players, and I am sure he would opt to keep Reddick over losing him for a bad deal. Yet, Reddick enters the final year of his contract in 2024, and there is clearly either a lack of desire to pay Reddick what he wants, or not pay him at all. Therefore, a trade is possible, but the offseason plays out will be a big determining factor.
Free Agent and Draft Landscape of Edge Rushers
In March, there are a ton of potential free agents and impact edge rushers looking for new homes. Danielle Hunter, Chase Young, and Jonathan Greenard are just a few of many, not to mention the defensive tackle market with potentially Chris Jones as well. This could potentially hurt Reddick’s trade market, where a team would have to give up assets to get Reddick and also likely pay him a top-of-the-line extension as well. Many teams might rather just go out and sign a good player at the position and keep draft picks for other needs on their team.
Regardless of the depth, however, Reddick is one of the best pass-rushers out of that group. Hunter is phenomenal and Greenard will also interest teams if he hits the market. Yet, Reddick still fits in as one of the best edge rushers available. As for the NFL Draft, there are only a few top-edge rushers, but the depth is not very good. A win-now type of team who may have missed out on the top free agents, could very well pony up to get a star like Reddick. However, what will the Eagles be willing to accept for Reddick?
Haason Reddick Trade Value
One of the most recent trades involving a pass-rusher was the Chicago Bears trading for Montez Sweat from the Washington Commanders at this year’s trade deadline. Sweat finished this year with 12.5 sacks to Reddick’s 11, while Reddick had more tackles for loss and Sweat had more fumbles forced in 2023. Sweat went for a second-round pick and while he is a bit younger than Reddick, the Eagles will likely be looking for similar compensation for Reddick. However, it depends on how teams will value Reddick’s current 20+ million-dollar cap hit in 2024. The Eagles will obviously be looking to get rid of as much of that money as possible in a trade. But if a team agrees to take on the full contract, there’s a chance the best offer the Eagles will get is a third-round pick.
Haason Reddick Trade Possibilities
All in all, it’s not a given that Reddick won’t be on the Eagles next year. In 2022, Reddick was unbelievably good, and while he was still very good this year, he took a step back in 2023. He also will be turning 30 years old next season. The Eagles have Josh Sweat and 2023 rookie Nolan Smith on cheaper contracts, so it makes sense why the Eagles might be okay with parting with Reddick. Reddick is still very good, but potentially offloading his contract and gaining draft capital could be very beneficial. The Eagles have more needs this offseason than years past, so this offseason may look very different than fans are used to the last few years.
