2024 NFL Quarterback Tier Rankings
As the 2024 NFL draft approaches, all eyes are on the quarterback position. With the league’s top teams looking to secure their franchise signal-caller for the future, the pressure is on to identify the next great quarterback prospect. In this year’s quarterback tier rankings, I will be taking a closer look at the top QB prospects in the draft, breaking them down into different tiers based on their skills, performances, and potential. From college standouts to under-the-radar sleepers, the 2024 NFL quarterback tier rankings will provide an in-depth analysis of the most important position in football.
TIER 1- Superstar potential with minor flaws
Caleb Williams
Ever since Caleb Williams’s days at Gonzaga High School, he has been a player who has captured the attention of many with his impressive athletic abilities and exceptional quarterback skills. Caleb Williams has been on my radar as a potential number-one pick. Nicknamed Super Man, Williams’s elite arm talent and athletic ability make him an easy top Quarterback choice.
Tier 2- Superstar potential with significant flaws
Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels
Drake Maye and Jayden are two hard-working, talented QBS with all the potential in the world to be elite. They are profoundly gifted. Whether it’s Maye’s big arm with surprising mobility or Jayden Daniels’s great deep ball and ELITE athleticism. However, both have significant flaws that need fixing to be successful. Maye struggles with footwork and technical inconsistencies, which leads to high throws and interceptions. Maye also has average to below-average pocket presence. Daniels has inconsistent accuracy in the intermediate and short passing game. Plus, for some reason loves to get blasted by defenders. They have what it takes to be unique, but they must be developed.
Tier 3- Star potential to be top 12-15 QBs in NFL
Micheal Penix Jr, JJ McCarthy, Bo Nix, and Spencer Rattler.
I expect these four quarterbacks to start at the NFL level sometime during their rookie year. Penix is the most NFL-ready and talented, and he could easily be in the second tier. JJ has played and succeeded in an NFL pro-style offense. In the right system, he can win NFL games. Bo Nix is accurate and is arguably the best in the quick game in this class. Spencer Rattler is one of the wildcards in the draft. Once the former number-one overall favorite, Rattler has beat the odds and shown immense progress.
Tier 4- Solid Backup/Emergency Starter
Micheal Pratt, Jordan Travis, Sam Hartman, Devin Leary, Kendon Slovis, Austin Reed, Brendan Armstrong, and Gavin Hardison.
There are some quarterbacks who have vast experience and knowledge of the game, but may lack the innate talent to be the main starter for a team. However, they can still prove to be valuable assets as backup quarterbacks. They are also able to step in and provide stability in the event that the starting quarterback suffers an injury or needs to be replaced temporarily. While they may not have the natural talent of a starting quarterback, their experience and ability to adapt to different situations make them a valuable addition to any team.
Tier 5- Wild Card
Joe Milton
He is a quarterback whose potential is undeniable. His natural talent is truly elite, and his physical abilities are impressive. However, he has struggled to perform consistently on the field and his decision-making has been questionable at times. Whether he can improve his game and become a reliable player in the league remains to be seen. If things don’t improve, he may find himself without a place in the NFL is the ultimate wildcard of the quarterback class and maybe the draft. The talent is elite; everything else is terrible. Can he get it together? If not, will he be out of the league?
