Star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa may seek a trade after contract talks stall this offseason as the Dolphins are not giving him a “market” deal. According to a report, Miami does not plan to give a deal that matches what Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence are receiving this year. It’s becoming less encouraging for Tagovailoa who’s already declining the option that the Dolphins are giving him so it’s hard for the two sides to agree. The two sides are not close in their negotiations and the longer they wait, the price goes up.
Dak Prescott and Jordan Love are the next dominoes that everyone is expecting to fall into a new deal. Lawrence and Goff’s deals are providing the roadmap for the Dolphins, Cowboys and Packers. A report says that Miami has not brought up the idea of giving Tagovailoa a market-value extension so that provides a speedbump in any progression of negotiations. The sides are working toward the middle ground but given his injury history, it’s hard to imagine the Dolphins give him the same offer around the realm of Lawrence and Goff.
Miami might be in a standoff with Tagovailoa who may not produce as well this upcoming season due to contract conflicts. This is something that always happens when a player doesn’t get the deal he wants and would rather tank the season to get out of the situation. The Dolphins should avoid this being that Tyreek Hill isn’t going to be around much longer and they have the talent to go deep into playoff contention. Tagovailoa led the NFL with 4,624 passing yards and threw 29 touchdown passes.
His production isn’t the issue but the Dolphins could be stalling because of his injuries. Here are some potential trade fits.
Star Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa May Seek Trade After Contract Talks Stall
Potential Trade Fits
New Orleans Saints
Derek Carr is on time clock this season after having one of the worst campaigns last year in recent memory of his NFL tenure. Dennis Allen isn’t making it easy for the veteran so they may be tanking this season to get another quarterback in next year’s draft. The issue is that there aren’t a lot of options since this was the draft that a lot of them went in this year’s draft that saw many quarterbacks being selected.
They may dive to get Tagovailoa but only if they’re willing to change their roster around. The Saints haven’t had a reliable quarterback since the Drew Brees-Era so it’s a bit shocking they haven’t found their guy yet. Tagovailoa may bring new energy and hype to the fanbase again and intrigue other potential free agents next year.
Los Angeles Chargers
By no means should anyone expect the Chargers to move on from Justin Herbert. However, anything is possible in the league since it doesn’t look promising for Herbert’s surroundings to establish himself as one of the elite quarterbacks. They’re getting about any receiver on the market including DJ Chark but only have Josh Palmer and Quentin Johnson as replacements for Mike Williams and Keenan Allen. It doesn’t look like a team that wants to go to the playoffs under Jim Harbaugh’s first year.
Harbaugh wants to establish a strong running game for the current quarterback so it may not even matter who’s the future franchiser that leads this team. This energy he’s putting towards the wideout position could become the same result for Herbert.
Carolina Panthers
Bryce Young has an efficient supporting cast to make the Panthers possibly playoff contenders again. However, if Dave Canales doesn’t see improvement from him then they make a switch at quarterback. Young has a lot of tools to make this offense successful including Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen. The Panthers can move on but this is something to keep an eye on if Young doesn’t improve.
