The Los Angeles Chargers or New Orleans Saints may bring back former Pro Bowler, Randall Cobb from retirement this upcoming season. According to a report, the veteran is putting football life on pause and moving into media space where he will join the SEC Network for the 2024 campaign. Cobb spent most of his career with the Green Bay Packers but many sources confirm that Cobb is retiring after this past season but he’s leaving the door open for any team that reaches out. It’s no surprise that there hasn’t been a market for him since he had limited production last year.
The Kentucky product had his best year in 2014 where he was able to rack up 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, he hasn’t been able to pull in much throughout his career after spending just a year with the Dallas Cowboys but registering a career-high 15.1 yards per catch average while posting 828 yards. From the Houston Texans to reuniting with Aaron Rodgers again with the Jets, Cobb’s career may be over but opportunity for a team that needs an extra weapon is always open. He may be focusing on broadcasting this upcoming fall but he will leave once he receives a couple of calls from NFL teams.
The Chargers may be one team that could be knocking on his doorstep and haven’t been able to establish a reliable core wideout set for Justin Herbert. Ladd McConkey is the only receiver who’s showing promise at camp but DJ Chark, Quentin Johnson and Josh Palmer don’t sound like long-term starters. The Saints are desperate as well for a receiver since the only weapons they have are Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. It’s gonna take more to prove that Derek Carr can be a starter.

Kansas City Chiefs
On paper, it doesn’t look like the Chiefs need a receiver since they have plenty but not enough that are reliable. Cobb isn’t the same anymore but it gives more pass catchers in the rotation to help Kadarius Toney and Mecole Hardman in the slot either way. Rashee Rice isn’t around for a while due to off-field issues so that leaves first-year Marquise Brown with some big shoes to fill which shouldn’t be expected of him. Cobb’s veteran status should give this offense some insurance policy knowing that Xavier Worthy could be the next Tyreek Hill if they play their cards right.
It’s unpredictable every year what the passing game will look like for Patrick Mahomes but the good news is that he’s Mahomes for a reason. He can pretty much turn any receiver into a star despite some ongoing struggles on the receiver depth. They always find a way to still make it to the Super Bowl and win it with Travis Kelce being the lead wideout despite just being a tight end.
Baltimore Ravens
Nelson Agholor is joining the team on a one-year deal to help Rashod Bateman in the slot so this means they should bring another veteran to boost up the competition. Cobb is the perfect fit for the scenario if they want to bring an extra receiver to help Bateman. The issue with their receiving corps is not the lack of weapons but what each one could provide for the team. Bateman has been a disappointment since last year so somehow he’s coming back on a contract extension this upcoming season.
The Ravens are set with Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews for the long-term future but they’re lacking some veteran experience since Odell Beckham Jr’s departure.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers have been building a strong offense for Bryce Young since the team is looking bright this upcoming season. Diontae Johnson and a returning Adam Thielen should give this offense enough power but they’re building an Xavier Legette to help. However, it’s never too early to think about bringing in a cost-effective option like Cobb for an insurance policy.
