Chiefs, Ravens Among Top Suitors For 1,100-Yard Wide Receiver

According to recent rumors, the Chiefs and Ravens could become the top suitors for receiver Christian Watson.

The Chiefs and Ravens are among the two top suitors for 1,100-yard wide receiver, Christian Watson. This one’s surprising since Watson is young and the Packers are getting younger at the wideout position. However, reports say the Packers could put him on the trading block if they fall out of postseason contention. Watson has been having injury concerns this season which will force him to miss time.

Only notching five receptions for 80 total yards for one touchdown this season raises some concerns about his performance. If he continues to be inconsistent this year and he doesn’t stay healthy, the Packers could trade him. Green Bay doesn’t want to risk the chance of extending him if he can’t stay healthy among a heavy room full of receivers who are performing well. There are plenty of promising receivers like Dontayvion Wicks stepping in his absence and producing numbers, catching five catches for 78 yards.

The reality is that the Packers have a deep room of receivers like Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed. They’ve been shining this year taking over the primary duties of the lineup. Watson is falling out of the depth chart so that only means they could deal with him in a trade. One source believes they should bring back Davante Adams in exchange for Christian Watson which wouldn’t be a bad deal as long as Jordan Love stays healthy and productive.

Green Bay trading Watson would open a new stream of receivers for this roster. It wouldn’t concern Love since he already has a deep group of receivers. Watson should be able to attract trade interest if he can return to full health in time for the trade deadline.

Championship Teams

It’s fair to say the Chiefs and Ravens could look for hidden gems to help their passing game before the postseason. However, the Ravens have a solid running attack but there are still some inconsistencies in the passing game. Zay Flowers is a superstar in the making but Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor struggle to follow that same blueprint. Watson could still be his best as long as he stays healthy and his size would make Lamar Jackson comfortable to throw darts to.

Meanwhile, the Chiefs are looking for a revival of their entire passing game. After losing Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice, the new collection of receivers behind rookie Xavier Worthy don’t look like players that will be able to sustain during the postseason. Kansas City is on life support at 4-0 with a struggling Travis Kelce and a bruised backfield. Watson isn’t a superstar but once he gets back to full health, he could still be a reliable receiver in the deep threat.

Other Potential Trade Destinations

New Orleans Saints

New Orleans is probably one receiver from being a new NFC Heavyweight. After two blowout wins, the Saints haven’t been able to deliver in the last two losses. Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed are Derek Carr’s only reliable weapons in the passing game. Watson could be their new third man and share the slant route to open the field.

Los Angeles Chargers

Justin Herbert won’t be able to survive this season by just relying on Ladd McConkey as their dependable option. He’s just a rookie so they must bring in someone who has experience under his belt. Watson isn’t a veteran but he could provide new life behind the struggles of Quentin Johnston and Joshua Palmer.

Carolina Panthers

No one should anticipate the Panthers to make the playoffs this season. After benching Bryce Young and losing Derrick Brown and Shaq Thompson, the campaign is already over. The Panthers are still figuring out themselves under Dave Canales. Since Diontae Johnson may be out the door this offseason, Watson could be his new replacement to start the beginning of a new regime.
