Is It Time To Move On From This Eagles Secondary Member?

The Eagles are looking better out of the bye with a 4-2 record. However, is it time to move on from this member of the Eagles secondary?
Eagles James Bradberry

The Philadelphia Eagles have been starting to get off on the right foot ever since the bye week. They picked up a narrow win against the Cleveland Browns and a dominating win in Saquon’s revenge game against the New York Giants. Now, the team will most likely look to be buyers at the upcoming Nov. 5 trade deadline. What does the team have to give in return to other organizations, though? Does the Eagles secondary have a particular veteran, like James Bradberry, who could be used as a trade chip?

Could The Eagles Finally Move Off Of James Bradberry?

Outlets like Sports Illustrated have speculated that the Eagles could use Bradberry as a trade chip in negotiations they have with other teams at the upcoming deadline. The outlet reported that Delaware News Journal’s Martin Frank spoke on the possibility of a Bradberry trade.

“It’s quite possible that Roseman could trade a player or two for draft capital to help offset a draft pick given away in a different deal,” Frank said. “For example, could converted safety James Bradberry bring back a conditional late-round pick?”

Rumors as to James Bradberry being pushed out the door in the Eagles organization have been swirling since the offseason. This may be the perfect opportunity to find a new home for the Eagles secondary member.

What Does the Eagles Secondary Veteran Provide?

As discussed, Bradberry probably won’t net a premium player or even draft haul in return for his services. However, he could at least provide additional draft capital to sweeten a deal with another team. The Eagles will almost certainly look for help on defense. The team currently has needs at the defensive line and secondary, as reported by Delaware Online.

Bleacher Report has defensive line names like Za’Darius Smith of the Browns, Chase Young of the New Orleans Saints, and Budda Baker of the Arizona Cardinals as potential names to be moved. Bradberry was a Pro Bowler with the Giants in 2020 and earned All-Pro recognition with the Eagles in 2022. However, the veteran regressed in 2023, and now younger talent like Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell have made Bradberry somewhat of an odd man out in the Eagles secondary.

If there was ever a time to maximize the value of the veteran it would be now. That’s also not to say that Bradberry is completely obsolete in his playing ability. He simply hasn’t had an opportunity to showcase himself this year, as he got injured shortly after making the roster in training camp.

Perhaps a change of scenery in exchange for draft capital is exactly what Bradberry needs. Also, the cornerback could provide veteran leadership to whatever team the Eagles decide to potentially ship him to. There could be a lot of upside in a move like this, and the Eagles need to capitalize on the opportunity now. They have plenty of talent on the roster and need to maximize their chances of potentially winning a championship, even if it means moving off of old talent.
