Overview
Born on May 25th, 1999, in Newton, Connecticut, Ben Mason attended Newton High School. As a sophomore, Mason found himself on the defensive side of the football, totaling 110 tackles (six for a loss), five and a half sacks, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions. His junior year, Mason had 113 total tackles (11 for a loss), four sacks, a fumble recovery and four interceptions. Meanwhile, on offense Mason rushed the football 43 times for 231 yards while receiving 24 passes for 416 yards. That season, Mason totaled 15 touchdowns on offense. His senior year saw more time in the backfield, as he took 80 carries for 719, including 11 for touchdowns. In the end, Mason committed to the University of Michigan.
His freshman season, Mason had three carries for four yards, two touchdowns, and two solo tackles. During his sophomore season, Mason had 33 carries for 80 yards and seven touchdowns. Additionally, Mason took once reception for 15 yards and had two solo tackles. His junior year saw one rushing attempt of three yards, as well as seven total tackles. Finally, his senior year saw two receptions for 17 yards with one touchdown and even a kickoff return. He may have filled up the stat sheet, but Mason is a huge factor in the Wolverines’ success.
Mason is a two-time recipient of the team’s Toughest Player Award and was voted to be Team Captain his senior year. He was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Honoree and was a member of the 2021 NFF Hampshire Honor Society. Mason was a letter winner in all four years at Michigan. Mason was also the first Wolverine since Denard Robinson to have three touchdowns in the first half of a game. He was Co-Offensive Player of the Week with three running back teammates.

Bottom Line on Ben Mason
Ben Mason is a hard-nosed, old school punishing fullback. He brings very good hands in the pass game, but rushing the football remains a weakness. Therefore, Mason offers more of a blocking specialist, therefore limiting how he can be used. In short yardage, Mason’s explosiveness is very effective and will give defenders trouble. As a result, due to his lack of versatility, Mason will be a late-round selection for a team that utilizes a fullback in their offense.
