Former Super Bowl champion cornerback, Kelvin Joseph could be a cut candidate this summer. According to a report, the Kansas City Chiefs have depth at the position after bringing Joseph on the practice squad so there may be no room for him. It’s not easy for a newcomer considering the team already has several cornerback prospects including Trent McDuffie, Joshua Williams, Jaylen Watson and Nazeeh Johnson. Many were speculating that since the Chiefs were trading L’Jarius Sneed, the secondary would struggle, but that doesn’t look true.
Sneed may not return for the next few years but it would be smart for the Chiefs to keep Joseph in the rotation. However, he still hopes to have a spot on the roster even if it means staying on the practice squad waiting for his turn. The Kentucky product will have another opportunity to show some flashes at practice which he is already doing after impressing at OTA’s. Joseph has to learn a new system in Kansas City and still needs to beat out the other talent that the Chiefs brought in from this year’s draft.
The Dallas Cowboys took a chance on him in the 2021 Draft where he was able to be persistent. Joseph doesn’t have an interception on record but he was able to notch four passes defended along with a fumble force and a recovery. According to Pro Football Focus, they gave him a 73.0 coverage grade as a rookie, and the numbers back that up. He did not allow a touchdown nor received many penalties in his rookie year.
However, his coverage grade and ability to stop offenses were plummeting so they traded the struggling cornerback for another. Joseph was attempting to regain confidence with the Seahawks but didn’t get far.

Next Possible Teams
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens knew that they were going to need to address the cornerback position so it’s why they’re bringing in Nate Wiggins out of Clemson. There weren’t a lot of quality cornerbacks in this year’s draft but time waits for no one. The secondary continues to get younger every year for Baltimore so they need a quality veteran that has the experience to get it done. Stephon Gilmore may still be on the market but if they want someone cheaper then they get Joseph for cheaper.
He isn’t going to overhaul the entire defense but it gives the Ravens a cost-effective option at cornerback to help alongside Marlon Humphrey. The Ravens have one of the most powerful defenses in the league but they lost a lot of key players including Jadeveon Clowney and Geno Stone. They need some type of insurance policy to fuel up the pace of this roster.
New Orleans Saints
Dennis Allen wouldn’t be thinking straight if he let his secondary get older without adding more efficient younger cornerbacks. Marshon Lattimore still has a lot of gas in the tank but it’s hard to imagine that he stays with the team beyond 2024. There were rumors that he could be on the trade block soon despite Allen wanting him to stay on the roster. However, it wouldn’t hurt the Saints’ chances if they bring Joseph in if he’s available.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers were looking into reuniting with Gilmore but those talks didn’t go anywhere beyond a visit. Jaycee Horn and Troy Hill are still fairly young and developing at the position. Dave Canales may be rebuilding most of his offense but they should look into doing the same for the defense.
