The Lions and Chargers may emerge as suitors for All-Pro wide receiver, Davante Adams this season. According to a report, the Lions may be one of the surprising teams who may inquire about the frustrated wideout to reinforce their entire receiving corps. Adams has been the subject of trade rumors as the Raiders are trying to make a deal quickly and move on from him. However, the Jets were the most probable destination but that might not happen anymore due to the distraction of firing former head coach Robert Saleh.
The good news for Adams is that there are plenty of rosters looking for receivers to add before the upcoming postseason. The playoffs are still far but many teams should think ahead of bolstering the offense. Adams’ frustration will not go away if he stays in Las Vegas so he’ll likely take any deal as long as a team has a legitimate chance to go far. While the Steelers are a new name for Adams in the trade sweepstakes, the Lions and Chargers should be one to watch.
Pittsburgh hasn’t been the same since trading Diontae Johnson and having two quarterbacks on the team sharing the snaps. However, Justin Fields has been playing the majority of the time with just George Pickens and Calvin Austin having an out-of-nowhere season. Adams would likely benefit from a consistent quarterback like Jared Goff or Justin Herbert. Only time can tell what the Raiders will do but expect these two rosters to come up in the sweepstakes later on while Adams will find a new home as soon as this week.
Lions, Chargers May Emerge As Favorites For All-Pro Davante Adams
More Firepower for Detroit
The Lions arguably have one of the most improved teams for the past two seasons. However, they’re still missing one more consistent receiver to fill the depth chart. Jared Goff is always looking for playmakers and Adams may be their last crown jewel to secure in time for a Super Bowl. The Lions were close last season securing a spot to face the Chiefs for the Lombardi Trophy but that all fell after losing to San Francisco.
Amon-Ra St. Brown is coming off one of his best campaigns last year and Jameson Williams is a solid WR2. Tim Patrick and Allen Robinson are still balancing the lineup so that’s a notable weakness in Detroit’s offense. Adams would easily be the best player alongside St. Brown and let Williams focus on the slot end route. He may be the last piece the Lions need to secure an NFL championship for Goff.
Revival in Los Angeles
Even though the Raiders might be hesitant to trade to their divisional rival, they probably will end up going with it for the right price. Justin Herbert needs playmakers and he isn’t going far deep into a postseason with just rookie Ladd McConkey carrying most of the work. Quentin Johnston and journeyman Joshua Palmer have been inconsistent as far as putting up big numbers for the team. Herbert thrives when he has his superstar support like last year with Mike Williams and Keenan Allen.
However, they’re not around anymore so they need some revival and Adams could be one of those players.
Other Potential Trade Destinations
New Orleans Saints
Adams landing with the Saints shouldn’t be out of the question despite losing Derek Carr. Spencer Rattler needs help since he’ll take over and Adams could be one of them. After releasing A.T. Perry, the Saints will likely sign or trade for a new weapon to help Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed. Adams would be the best receiver on this team and when Carr returns, they may be near a playoff contention and the duo could return if they make it that far.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are always a team that is a part of any wideout rumor. However, they need a solid superstar to accommodate CeeDee Lamb. They can’t make a deep playoff run if they rely on Jalen Tolbert to fill a full-time role while they wait for Brandin Cooks to return. Reserve players like Jalen Brooks aren’t ready for that type of atmosphere so Adams would easily be a no-brainer target from Dallas if they’re interested.
