Last night at the NXT Live Event in Orlando, Florida, former NXT Superstar Tye Dillinger made a return to NXT to answer an open challenge from NXT’s Marcel Barthel (formerly Axel Dieter Jr. in Germany’s wXw).

Tye Dillinger, who now competes as part of the Smackdown Live roster, returned to the brand that made him one of WWE’s great underdog characters, where he competed from 2013 through 2017. Prior to that, he worked for WWE’s developmental with Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) and Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW).
Dillinger’s surprise return marks the latest former NXT Superstar to return to the brand at Live Events, following the return of former NXT Tag Team Champions (and current Raw tag team) The Revival (Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder) at an NXT Live Event in Oklahoma on March 17 (where they answered a challenge from current tag team champions, Undisputed Era‘s Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong) and the return of Tyler Breeze from Smackdown Live the following night in Jacksonville, Florida (where he also answered Barthel’s open challenge). The Revival would go on to work the rest of the Live Event tour in Texas, in San Antonio, Dallas and Houston.

While some have thought they may be returning to NXT, as reports last summer had mentioned that some main roster talent may see their way back to NXT to avoid getting lost in the main roster shuffle, it appears that the four WWE Superstars were most likely special appearances due to being left off the current WWE European tour. Interestingly, after The Revival made their return, current Raw star and former 4x Raw Women’s Champion and NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks tweeted the following:
Can I come next time
