Cruiserweight Title Defense Set for Super Show-Down

WWE announced last week that on Saturday, October 6th, at WWE Super Show-Down, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, the Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander will defend his title against Melbourne native Buddy Murphy. Murphy, formerly known as Matt Silva when he wrestled on the Australian independent scene, will no doubt be cheered as the homecoming hero, despite being the heel in this match. He wrestled for Melbourne City Wrestling (MCW) from 2010 to 2013 where he had a stint with the MCW Heavyweight Championship before signing with NXT. There, he was grouped with Wesley Blake and Alexa Bliss, but Bliss went solo and was called up to the main roster, and the team of Blake and Murphy stalled after their 219 reign as NXT Tag Team Champions, and eventually he came up to 205 Live beginning in February of this year. He previously challenged Alexander for the title back in May, but he was unsuccessful in the attempt. Their match, however, has been said by some to be the best match in 205 Live all year. Buddy Murphy also had an excellent performance against Mustafa Ali in July in a No Disqualification match, and more recently, he’s coming off a great win against Kalisto on the latest episode of 205 Live. In front of his hometown, you can assume he’ll put on a similarly stellar performance at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds when WWE goes Down Under.

The champion Alexander is in a quagmire with Drew Gulak, who has been nipping at his heels for a month now. Gulak has been demanding a rematch with Alexander to avenge his loss to him on the SummerSlam Kick-Off Show. Alexander’s attention may be divided going into this title match at Super Show-Down, and it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out into this angle going forward, and if Alexander will indeed be feuding with both men.
