Preview: Pro Wrestling EVE Global Women Strike (9/27/18)

Global Women Strike

Pro Wrestling EVE throw their hat into the ring of one of the most stacked weekends of British wrestling as we see PROGRESS go to Wembley, Fight Club: PRO brings us another two days of Project Mayhem and EVE runs some of the most unbelievably stacked shows in company history.  The kickoff show, Global Women Strike, for this week has action and international stars in spades so let’s jump in.

Match 1: She-1 Qualifier – Holidead vs Rhia O’Reilly

Cult hero in EVE “The fighting Irish” Rhia O’ Reilly looks to represent her brand against an international import in Holidead.  O’Reilly looks to qualify for her first She-1, EVE’s version of the G1 Climax, as she looks for a route back to the top of Pro Wrestling EVE.  Her opponent is no stranger to any US indie fans as Holidead has competed for the WWE, Ring of Honor, IMPACT Wrestling, RISE and Shine as well as a tour in Stardom.  A clash of styles as the brawler O’Reilly faces the faster paced Holidead.

Match 2: She-1 Qualifier – Sammii Jayne vs Hana Kimura

Kimura joins Mio Momono as being the future of Joshi, at just 21 she is a highly rated prospect in Joshi wrestling and has already competed for WAVE, Sendai Girls, Oz Academy, Stardom, Japaneses Womens-Pro Wrestling Project (JWP) and is a regular in Wrestle-1.  She has also captured four championships to date, most notably the Goddesses of Stardom titles with current World Of Stardom Champion Kagetsu.  She takes on a former EVE champion in Sammii Jayne.  Her reign of terror helped gain the company momentum as they headed to their big York Hall show Wrestle Queendom, as she main evented against fan favourite Charlie Morgan in a masterpiece of storytelling.  Outside of EVE, she has been extremely successful and currently holds five women’s championships across promotions in Ireland, Scotland and England.

Match 3: Millie McKenzie vs Chihiro Hashimoto

Sendai Girls double champion Chihiro Hashimoto comes to EVE.  The current 4x Sendai Girls Champion also currently holds the tag championships with Mika Iwata.  Hashimoto has had such a quick rise to prominence having been a rookie in 2016.  She embodies a strong style which has lead to her quick rise through the ranks.  She faces someone who may have a similar meteoric rise in Millie McKenzie – McKenzie has been throwing women around UK rings for a year now and continues to improve with the intense training regiments at Fight Club: PRO.  Two stars who weren’t wrestling just 4 years ago but currently have the huge potential to be stars,

Match 4: Meiko Satomura vs Toni Storm

Two of the best women’s wrestlers in the world face off for only the second time.  Their last encounter went to a 20 minute time limit draw.  Two performers at different parts of their career as Storm is only getting started while Satomura is a 20 year veteran.  Storm is a world travelled competitor who has appeared for the WWE, Stardom, was the first ever PROGRESS Women’s champion and is one of the most in demand talents in the world.  Satomura spent far too long hidden away in the Joshi scene, absolutely killing it for her Sendai Girls promotion.  Recently we have seen Satomura step outside Japan and prove her legendary status, as she has wowed audiences all over the world, including this year’s WWE Mae Young Classic.  Between them, they have had 16 championship reigns and collected some of the most prestigious women’s titles in the world.  If the names alone don’t sell you on this we aren’t sure what will.  This could be EVE’s match of the year and is sure to be worth the price of the iPPV, which will available on EVE’s On-Demand Network.

NOTE: One match was cancelled due to an injury. European star Killer Kelly, who has tore it up in Germany’s Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw) and is making her way through the UK indie scene (including NXT UK) was slated to face Jordynne Grace, but due to injury, Grace is no longer appearing. A replacement opponent for Kelly has yet to be named. Another Stardom star, Kris Wolf, is also announced as appearing.
