Indie Watch: Scotland’s The Kings of Catch – #KINGS4Everyone

Indie Watch is our regular series that looks at all of the amazing talent working the independent circuits around the world. Some are veterans revitalizing their careers, some are indie prospects hitting their peaks, while others are names to be on the watch for! This edition looks at arguably the most popular tag team in Scottish wrestling today, “The Hardcore Hippie” Aspen Faith and “The Renegade” Lewis Girvan, The Kings of Catch.

Aspen Faith and Lewis Girvan were born to team together. They look alike, they wrestle alike, they dress alike. Up until 2016 though, they both led very different careers. Faith began his training at WrestleZone, a promotion based in Aberdeen, Scotland (debuting in January 2012), while Girvan began his training at Glasgow’s Source Wrestling School (debuting in July 2010). Their first singles match against each other came in May 2015 at a Source Wrestling Showcase event, a match won by Lewis. From this point forward, Big Damo (now WWE’s Killian Dain) practically begged for the two to team together.

After wrestling each other a handful of other times, The Kings of Catch was officially formed in August 2016 when Aspen helped Lewis defeat the masked luchador Robbie Solar. In the months that followed, The KoC faced the likes of Polo Promotions (Jackie Polo and Mark Coffey), The Underdogs (Kieran Kelly and Scott McManus), and The New Nation (The Primate and Alexander Henry). After wrestling for a few promotions here and there, they finally found a place to call home in the form of Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW). It was here where they joined Stevie Boy and Kay Lee Ray as part of The Filthy Generation.

Since the summer of 2017, the pair have blown up the British wrestling circuit, with their names often being linked to CCK for their sick tag moves. Wrestling regularly for ICW, Discovery Wrestling (DW), WrestleZone (WZ) and others, it’s astonishing that they’ve only held one set of tag team championships together (they’re the reigning WZ Tag Team Champions). Imagine a team being this good and not winning that much gold despite being on the go for one and a half years. It boggles the mind.

As of July 2018, The Kings of Catch also have a YouTube channel where they post episodes of a wonderful show known as KINGS ROAD, which returns with a new season and look (rebooting as KINGS ROAD WARRIORS) on Tuesday night! If you’re not watching, what’s wrong with you?
