Preview: Black Label Pro – Through Being Cool (9/6/20)

Through Being Cool

Black Label Pro is back off a hot double-header weekend in August to sink their toes into September with Through Being Cool! Corniness from the author aside, it’s going to be a great show that has been promised for a long while. Back when the COVID-19 pandemic began and all of wrestling came to a screeching halt, BLP promised that when they could, they would run an empty arena show for the fans. Well, it took a while, but it’s finally happened and it’s Through Being Cool

Dan the Dad vs. Jack Griffin

Our first match for Through Being Cool features a character perpetually viewed as not cool, and that’s Dan the Dad. The Dad, with his trademark coffee cup and disapproving look at the ready, is the current Alpha-1 Zero Gravity Champion. He’s also entered into the upcoming Turbo Graps 16 tournament. The Michael Elgin trained parental figure was successful at BLP’s return event We’re Back: A Wrestler’s Story in a four-way scramble. Momentum is on the dad’s side as he’s ready to hand out punishments to Jack Griffin. Griffin is just 20 years old, starting to spread his wrestling half-pipe out for the skating. He’s a skateboarding enthusiast that trained at the Burning Spirit Wrestling Factory in St. Louis. Griffin is a regular for Galli Lucha Libre and has also appeared for IWA Mid-South, now adding Black Label Pro to his resume.

Violence is Forever (Dominic Garrini & Kevin Ku) vs. Rip City Shooters (Joshua Bishop & Wes Barkley)

The team Rip City Shooters are making their debut as a pair at Through Being Cool! Both Joshua Bishop and Wes Barkley have competed in singles action for BLP on multiple occasions. Both men also have a history with Dominic Garrini in Absolute Intense Wrestling. As it stands though, neither team has faced off in the ring before. Violence is Forever was successful at Erick Stevens Presents Professional Wrestling over Alex Zayne and Blake Christian. Bishop also picked up a single’s win at We’re Back: A Wrestler’s Story.

Lee Moriarty vs. Alex Zayne

Another big first-time match for Through Being Cool is the Apex of Combat, Lee Moriarty, taking on Alex Zayne. Moriarty is coming off a loss from the Erick Stevens show, but it was an incredible showing for the youngster against Josh Alexander. Since wrestling returned from the pandemic suspension, he’s had heaps of big matches. Moriarty has shown he can hold his own against Alexander, Chris Dickinson, and his sometimes tag partner, Wheeler Yuta. Zayne is also a young sensation having caught fire from his early GCW appearances in the summer of 2019. Since then he’s become a wanted name across the independent scene and around the world. He’s completed a tour in Japan for Big Japan Wrestling, worked with NJPW for their last American tour in January, and is currently appearing on their NJPW Strong series.

Calvin Tankman vs. Aaron Williams

Calvin Tankman is looking to get back on track following his triumph and heartbreak from Erick Stevens Presents Professional Wrestling. He was the one who was able to wrest away the BLP Heavyweight Championship from Erick Stevens. And before he was even able to celebrate properly, it was taken from him by Jake Something. Something came out immediately following Tankman’s victory, challenged and laid him out, and the referee counted three. At Turbo Graps 16 in a non-tournament match, Tankman will get his chance at regaining the title. Aaron Williams has been in a title chase of his own, going after the IWA-Mid South Heavyweight Championship after losing it on March 5th to Ace Perry. It’s also Williams’ return to BLP, his last appearance was at Quantum Leap in February.

WARHAUSEN (WARHORSE & Danhausen) vs. Erick Stevens & “Filthy” Tom Lawlor

Even more tag team greatness set in store for Through Being Cool! This time perhaps on the lighter side as WARHAUSEN rides again. The current reigning and defending IWTV Champion WARHORSE reunites with Danhausen. They haven’t teamed together since PW Revolver’s Valentine’s Day Massacre back on February 14th. Unfortunately for them, their opponents are two members of Team Filthy. Former champion Erick Stevens is sure to be in a foul mood following the loss of his beloved title. “Filthy” Tom Lawlor is never in a good mood these days and surely won’t enjoy WARHAUSEN’s antics. However, the fans who are watching live on IndependentWrestling.TV surely will! Danhausen will also be on the hunthausen for a win, as he and Ethan Page lost the BLP Tag Team Titles at We’re Back: A Wrestler’s Story

Black Label Pro Tag Team Championship Match
Besties in the World (Davey Vega & Mat Fitchett) (c) vs. Kylie Rae & Isaias Velasquez

Speaking of the BLP Tag Team Championships, they will also be defended at Through Being Cool. Davey Vega and Mat Fitchett will put up their newly acquired gold against the current BLP Midwest Champion, Kylie Rae, and Isaias Velasquez. The Besties have only lost one match thus far in 2020 and currently tote around three sets of tag team belts. Kylie Rae has been very active and successful in her return to wrestling and is enjoying life with that big ol’ smile. Isaias is also riding a hell of a hot streak, coming off big wins over Alex Shelley, Benjamin Carter, Danhausen, and Tre LaMar. He also recently made his debut for GCW at Keep In Touch. Vega and Fitchett have a pretty good size challenge with both of these hot stars combining forces.

Black Label Pro Heavyweight Championship Match
Jake Something (c) vs. Billie Starkz

The new Black Label Pro Heavyweight Champion will have his second title defense at Through Being Cool. In the short time of BLP’s return, he’s picked up wins over Calvin Tankman and Chris Masters. Before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the wrestling scene, he also picked up a win over Chris Dickinson and won the Greatest BLP Rumble, which earned him the title shot that he cashed in on Tankman. Something also portrays the more affable Cousin Jake in IMPACT Wrestling, but sadly that’s not who’s going to show up in BLP. The Greatest BLP Rumble was the only time he crossed paths with his challenger, Billie Starkz. Starkz is just shy of two years in wrestling and is still looking for her first title. She defeated Elayna Black at We’re Back: A Wrestler’s Story. Billie has also tangled with some other big names in her short career like Kylie Rae, Shotzi Blackheart, Angelus Layne, and Seishin. While Jake Something may have the obvious power advantage over his much smaller opponent, Billie’s resourceful ability and quickness will give her an edge.

You can watch all of this great action when it airs on IndependentWrestling.TV on September 6th at 9:00 PM Eastern time. It will be available on-demand on their service as well after that.
