Will Ospreay Returns: Announces He is Cleared & Will Not Participate in G1 Climax

Will Ospreay Vacates

At NJPW Resurgence, Will Ospreay made his return to the promotion. In doing so, Ospreay revealed that he has been cleared to return to action after having to relinquish the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship due to a neck injury back in May. However, the former champion took it a number of steps further as he revealed various announcements regarding his future including the fact that he will not be participating in the 2021 G1 Climax or returning to Japan anytime soon. Instead, Ospreay has revealed that he will be participating in NJPW Strong moving forward.

Will Ospreay returning this early has to be a shock to many as his neck injury looked to be one that would keep him out for a while. His anger showed after having to relinquish the championship, stating that Jon Moxley didn’t defend the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship for over a year and got to keep his gold. Ospreay would then reveal that he had his own version of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship with him, making it clear that he plans to defend it against anyone from NJPW in the United States as well as anyone through the “Forbidden Door.”

The former champion did not make any friends in his fight night back as he called out the LA Dojo, resulting in Clark Connors and Karl Fredericks trying to get at him. TJP would hold them back before Ospreay would call him an “LA Dojo legend,” seemingly setting up Ospreay’s first feud for his impending return to the ring.

Time will tell as to what Ospreay plans to do with his version of the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, but his return is a major one for both NJPW Strong and the “Forbidden Door.”
