NEW Friends Coming to Nation Extreme Wrestling in Vancouver

Taya Valkyrie Coming to NEW

Nation Extreme Wrestling (NEW), the newly launched indie promotion in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada this past summer, is rapidly emerging as one of the top independent companies in the country. Based out of Canada’s West Coast, it’s become the premier hub for West Coast talents from Canada’s West Coast and Western provinces (such as Alberta and Saskatchewan), and has been releasing their events for free on their official YouTube channel. They recently held their NEW 3 event, where they crowned their inaugural NEW Champion in “Golden Boy” Travis Williams.

As well as having an all-star roster of some of Canada’s top talents from the West – such as New Japan’s El Phantasmo, Artemis Spencer, Nicole Matthews, Daniel Makabe, Ravenous Randy, former WWE Superstars The Bollywood Boyz, The Voros Twins, Liiza Hall, and more – they’ve also managed to bring in other top talents from across the rest of Canada, including IMPACT’s Josh Alexander and “Speedball” Mike Bailey, Mark Wheeler, Anton Alexiev, KC Spinelli and others. NEW was slated to host NEW 4 at the legendary Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver in mid-January, but new Covid protocols have put the venue on hold, with a new location being scouted. But in the meantime, NEW officials have begun to announce some brand NEW friends joining the roster and this time they have a decidedly international flavor, as they welcome several new stars to NEW, with most set to make their NEW debuts at NEW 5 in February.

It was only a matter of time after her recent release from WWE/NXT, but the local girl is coming to NEW! Taya Valkyrie hails from nearby Vancouver Island’s Victoria and will be making her huge return to the Western Canada indie scene at NEW 5 when she makes her debut for the new promotion. A 3x AAA Reina de Reinas Champion in Mexico and the longest-reigning IMPACT Knockouts Champion (377 days), Valkyrie has been one of Canada’s most decorated champions of the past decade. While Taya competed in Canada multiple times for IMPACT Wrestling, this will mark her return to the Vancouver indies for the first time since 2011, when she competed for Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling (ECCW). During that last run in ECCW, she feuded with the likes of Nicole Matthews and KC Spinelli, who are now both now in NEW.

A pioneer of the West Coast indies in the U.S., San Diego’s B-Boy is making his NEW debut at NEW 5. An early star with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), where he’s a 3x PWG World Tag Team Champion, and with Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), the former CZW World Heavyweight Champion is still going after 23 years in the game. He still competes with the likes of Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) and throughout the West Coast and Pacific Northwest territories of the U.S. indies, and he’ll be making his return to Canada in February, last competing for ECCW in 2019.

One of the longest-tenured stars with Ring of Honor, Sumie Sakai competed in ROH’s first women’s match back in 2004 and was still with the company when he went on hiatus after this month’s ROH Final Battle. The inaugural ROH Women of Honor Champion, she held the title for 251-days, and outside of ROH continues to compete throughout the U.S. indies, where she’s also a former PCW ULTRA Women’s Champion in California. This will be a huge Canadian return for Sumie Sakai, who hasn’t competed in the Canadian indies since pre-ROH, when she competed for Toronto’s Apocalypse Wrestling Federation (AWF) in June of 2002, facing a young American indie wrestler named Beth Phoenix.

Max The Impaler is the ravager of the Wasteland, and at NEW 5 they will be making their NEW debut at NEW 5 as well. In their short career so far, they became an imposing force in Ring of Honor, and continue to lay waste in the U.S. indies with the likes of Beyond Wrestling, New South Pro, Hardcore Hustle Organization (H2O), Enjoy Wrestling, and Paradigm Pro Wrestling (PPW), amongst others. This will mark their first match in Canada since challenging IMPACT’s Rosemary for the Smash Women’s Championship at Smash Wrestling in Toronto back in December of 2019.

The last announced special guest for NEW 5 (so far) was announced on Monday as none-other than the internet champion forever himself, Effy. Effy has become one of the most entertaining performers in pro wrestling over the past two years, and his lengthy feud with Matt Cardona in GCW this past year has been one to follow. This will mark Effy’s big return to a Canadian ring since his last appearance for Hamilton’s Alpha-1 in December of 2019, but it most likely won’t be his last. With a strong tag team division brewing in NEW, it would be fun for Effy to return with his BUSSY tag partner Allie Katch at some point in 2022.

The last international star announced for their NEW debut is none other than the IWTV Independent Wrestling World Champion himself, Alex Shelley. The veteran icon of the indie world, the former IMPACT X-Division Champion and multi-time tag team champion alongside Chris Sabin of the Motor City Machine Guns, is no stranger to the Canadian indies. He was a regular with Windsor, Ontario’s Border City Wrestling (BCW) long before breaking nationally (it’s across the river from his hometown of Detroit), where he was a former BCW Can-Am Television Champion. He also held the Smash Championship in Toronto, defeating Matt Cross in 2014. While not currently slated to appear at NEW 5, it was announced he would be appearing at both NEW 6 and NEW 7.
