Preview: Gatoh Move ChocoPro #197 (1/29/22) – Shiryu vs. Akki

ChocoPro 197

Gatoh Move Pro Wrestling is only a few shows away from the 200th episode of ChocoPro, which has recently been revealed to be a two-day event. To say that this is big would be an understatement, as it ensures that Gatoh Move will aim to stack each card as high as possible. One or both cards will include the Super Asia Championship in the picture, which brings us to ChocoPro #197. In one of the final stops to Episode #200, the Super Asia Interim Championship is on the line. Here’s what to know.

Super Asia Interim Championship: Chon Shiryu (c) vs. Baliyan Akki

It’s fair to say that the Super Asia Championship has been a sticking point for Baliyan Akki since March of 2021. It was during this time that the then-vacant title was reinstated, a new champion needing to be decided. This led to a match being scheduled for Day 2 of ChocoPro #100, pitting Akki against Minoru Fujita. This was a nearly half-hour encounter that illustrated just how badly both men wanted to win Gatoh Move’s only singles championship. Despite his best efforts, the Asia Dream tag team titleholder was unable to overcome the veteran in Fujita. This loss stayed with Akki, even in spite of continued tag team success with Mei Suruga as Best Bros.

Fujita remained the undisputed Super Asia Champion for 304 days, all the while continuing to work for other promotions such as Big Japan Pro-Wrestling. However, earlier this year, Fujita was forced to step away from wrestling due to COVID-19 complications. Without a titleholder, it was decided that an interim champion would be crowned.  Once again, Akki found himself in Super Asia title contention, this time with Yuna Mizumori, Masahiro Takanashi, and Chon Shiryu. Despite having several more months of experience under his belt, Akki once again failed to capture singles gold, as Shiryu was declared the Super Asia Interim Champion. In just a few short months, Shiryu proved himself a capable champion in Fujita’s absence and even after the initial titleholder’s return.

ChocoPro #200 will see both Super Asia titleholders face off to declare an undisputed champion; who will be the sole wrestler to hold the blue belt? Prior to this, Shiryu must defend the Super Asia Interim Championship against Akki, who may be feeling like this is his final shot. As mentioned earlier, the title has been a sticking point for the self-proclaimed “Ace” of ChocoPro, that particular loss last year eating away at him. This upcoming episode may signal redemption for Akki if he is able to pick up the victory over Shiryu. Which man will go on to the landmark 200th episode with the championship in their possession? Tune into ChocoPro #197 to find out.
