Preview: AEW Rampage (05/20/22) – Full Card & Start Times

AEW Rampage Card graphic

AEW Dynamite took place at the Fertitta Center in Houston, Texas. It was called “Wild Card Wednesday” as we saw Maki Itoh and Johnny Elite (the former John Morrison) making appearances as the “Jokers” of the Owen Hart Cup. More people moved ahead in the brackets of said Tournament, however we still have one last quarter-final match left to go. Let’s take a look at the AEW Rampage card for this week.

This episode of Rampage was taped on Wednesday, May 18 so if you’d like to read the AEW Rampage spoilers then we have you covered.

Red Velvet vs Kris Statlander In The Owen Hart Cup

The last quarter-final match of either side of the tournament. Kris Statlander came in as a replacement for Hikaru Shida and has been showcasing her more serious personality latelt. At the same time, Red Velvet has also seen a change in personality after turning heel and joining TBS Champion Jade Cargill and Kiera Hogan as The Baddies. This will be the first major match for either woman since said character changes. The winner is set to meet Ruby Soho in the semi-finals.

Soho and Statlander have already faced each other, one on one. In a tournament, no less. That being the tournament to crown the first-ever TBS Champion. Red Velvet and Soho have also faced each other too but only in tag team matches. We’ll see on Rampage if Statlander will move on and get a chance to make up for that loss or if Red Velvet will continue to hoist the Baddies banner high.

Fuego Knocks On The House’s Door

Fuego Del Sol isn’t exactly the first name you think of when it comes to ideal opponents for The House Of Black. But Fuego, after weeks off TV due to a mouth infection, returns. Del Dols is teaming with the Dark Order’s Preston Vance & Evil Uno, to take on the imposing dark trio of Malakai Black, Brody King & Buddy Matthews. Gotta wonder how long the underdogs will last.

One positive is seeing Fuego Del Sol making his return to the ring after suffering a mouth infection last month that required surgery.

Two-Man Combat Club Action

While Wheeler Yuta continues his run at New Japan’s Best Of The Super Jr Tournament, Jon Moxley and Bryan Danielson of the Blackpool Combat Club have found themselves entangled in Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz’s feud with the Jericho Appreciation Society. While that match is officially announced for Double Or Nothing, it seems other teams see Moxley and Danielson as “distracted”. Those were the words of the teacher/student tandem of Matt Sydal and Dante Martin, who right after the match was announced on Dynamite, challenged the former World Champion duo.

While Sydal and Martin are no strangers to teaming up, obviously, Moxley and Danielson have been far more dominant and consistent since first teaming up after their match at Revolution that saw William Regal bring them together. Whether it’s the two of them together, alongside Wheeler Yuta, or against each other, they’ve been seeing action consistently since the last AEW Pay-Per-View event while Sydal is just now returning from a leg injury.

Scorpio Sky’s True Colors

Despite the trust the two forged for years as a part of SCU. And despite even the crowd’s own interests, Scorpio Sky betrayed Frankie Kazarian last week by accepting the help of Ethan Page and Dan Lambert which he originally said he didn’t want to defeat Kazarian. Of all people, Sammy Guevara had to save the indie legend from the Men Of The Year as the crowd booed.

A mixed tag team match was at one point suggested between Sammy and Tay Conti against Scorpio and Paige Vanzant but it would seem plans have changed. With Double Or Nothing fast approaching, we have to imagine we’ll see some sort of match involving this Sky/Guevara feud.
