Forbidden Door is the upcoming co-promoted supershow between All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling. The show will take place on June 26, 2022, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. One of the biggest joint wrestling shows the industry has seen since the NJPW/Ring of Honor G1 Supercard, Forbidden Door is shaping up to be a fantastic display of the best these two companies have to offer. Following this past Wednesday night’s Dynamite Forbidden Door go-home show, here is the updated card for the upcoming supershow, which now features nine matches including Kazuchika Okada, Zack Sabre Jr., the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship on the line, a Bullet Club one-night-only reunion, and so much more. Here are the Forbidden Door card updates.
Forbidden Door Card Updates as of 6/22/22
- NEW MATCH: Kazuchika Okada vs Adam Cole vs Jay White vs Hangman Page. Months ago, Hangman Page made his intentions clear. He wanted to challenge Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. But then Okada lost the belt to Jay White, leaving Page’s match hanging in the air. Well, on Wednesday night, it appeared the stage was set for Page to get his wish…kinda. After defeating a debuting Silas Young, Page found himself once again facing down White and Adam Cole in the ring. White once again refused Page his match and then turned to Cole and did the same, noting that Cole has lost to Page twice. While the three were continuing to go back and forth, a coin drop was heard and much to everyone’s surprise, the Rainmaker had arrived. Okada hit the ring and took out both Cole and White before briefly staring down at Page. Following the altercation, AEW announced a blockbuster match as Okada will take on Cole, Page, and White in a four-way where White will defend his IWGP championship. This should be a fantastic showdown where much like the AEW All-Atlantic Championship, it seems likely the home promotion, in this case, NJPW, will retain ownership of their top-level title.
- NEW MATCH: Zack Sabre Jr. vs ???. Dynamite opened with a bit of disappointing news. After much speculation, it was confirmed that Bryan Danielson will not be medically cleared for Forbidden Door. That means his match, which arguably was the biggest dream match on the card, is off for the time being. Danielson was set to face Zack Sabre Jr. in a battle between perhaps the two greatest technical wrestlers of all time and at the very least of this generation. While Danielson noted he won’t be able to compete, the American Dragon still promised Sabre would wrestle on the card against a hand-picked opponent. An opponent, who Danielson said, is the only person he trusts to take on such a match and win. This led to Sabre making a brief appearance but Danielson refused to name his opponent. We’ll all find out on Sunday. That said, people have certainly begun speculating about the match with the most popular suggestion the debut of the wrestler formerly known as Cesaro. Cesaro vs Sabre would be a fantastic match and one worthy of this card no doubt.
- NEW MATCH: Bullet Club (Young Bucks, ELP, and Hikuleo) vs Dudes with Attitudes (Sting, Darby Allin, Hiromu Takahashi, and Shingo). There was no doubt the Young Bucks were going to be on Forbidden Door. The brothers are the current AEW tag team champions and have a rich history of success in NJPW as well, both in the junior and heavyweight divisions. On Wednesday, the Bucks’ big match was announced. While there wasn’t much build to set things up, continuing tension between the Bucks, ReDRagon, Darby Allin, and Sting are at the heart of this one. In two separate video promos, the Bucks announced they would be teaming with Bullet Club in a one-night-only reunion while Sting and Allin would be teaming with junior standouts, Hiromu Takahashi and Shingo. This match will certainly be well worth the price of admission as things normally are when the Bucks are in the ring. They’ll be facing two of NJPW’s top junior heavyweights including current IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion, Takahashi.
- Pac vs Miro vs Malakai Black vs Tomohiro Ishii in a four-way match for the inaugural AEW All-Atlantic Championship. The sportsbooks beat us to it, but on Wednesday night, Vegas’ odds were proven right as Malakai Black secured the final spot in the four-way match to determine the inaugural AEW All-Atlantic Champion. Tomohiro Ishii had secured the second-to-last spot a few days prior when he defeated Clark Connors at the New Japan Road show. The field is set. One of these men will make history as the first All-Atlantic Champion. Current odds favor Miro and Black evenly at +125, but it really could be anyone’s match and title to win.
- Will Ospreay vs Orange Cassidy for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship. Will Ospreay and Orange Cassidy hit the ring on Wednesday night as part of a tag team match between Cassidy and Roppongi Vice vs. Ospreay and Aussie Open. Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher may not be on the card for Forbidden Door but they helped contribute to a great match on Wednesday night where the babyfaces came out on top as Cassidy pinned Fletcher. Most importantly, the match showed that Cassidy vs Ospreay could end up surprising people. The two showed some real chemistry in their brief encounter and while Cassidy was not the opponent many had hand-picked for Ospreay, all signs point to Freshly Squeezed delivering in this spot.
- Thunder Rosa vs Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship. Toni Storm got some work in on Wednesday night ahead of her big title match as she took on Marina Shafir. Following the match, Thunder Rosa came out to make the save for Storm, who found herself in the crosshairs of Shafir and her ally Nyla Rose. This led to a staredown between the two opponents with Storm grabbing the women’s title much to Rosa’s disliking.
- Jon Moxley vs Hiroshi Tanahashi for the Interim AEW World Championship. They say the enemy of my enemy is my friend and that was the case on Wednesday night when Jon Moxley and Hiroshi Tanahashi teamed up to take on Chris Jericho and his Suzuki-gun ally, Lance Archer. This was Tanahashi’s in-ring debut for AEW and he capped off a great match with a win, securing the pinfall on Archer. After the match is when things got wild as the Jericho Appreciation Society‘s Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti, as well as Minoru Suzuki, Eddie Kingston, and Wheeler Yuta all made their presence felt. This brawl helped set the stage for two of the Forbidden Door clashes.
- Shota Umino, Wheeler Yuta, and Eddie Kingston vs The Jericho Appreciation Society (Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara) and Minoru Suzuki in a six-man tag match. While the Moxley/Tanahashi vs Jericho/Archer match was mainly about the Forbidden Door main event, it did also help sell the big six-man tag as all members of the match were present for a post-match ringside brawl. Both matches provide some serious intrigue and it will be interesting to see what happens on Sunday night.
- FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) vs United Empire (Great O-Khan and Jeff Cobb) vs Roppongi Vice (Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta) in a winner take all match for the ROH and IWGP Tag Team Championships. FTR didn’t have much of a role on Wednesday. With their match already set up, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler simply made a run-in during the Ospreay/Cassidy match in order to prevent the other ringside members of United Empire from interfering. In the end, the appearance of FTR did make somewhat of a difference as Cassidy was able to get the win pinning Fletcher. On Sunday, Roppongi Vice will challenge FTR and United Empire with two sets of tag team titles on the line.
