Dungeon Wrestling, the new indie promotion in Calgary, Alberta, Canada that launched earlier this year, is continuing its build in Western Canada with a huge show, Romero Rumble, on July 9, 2022, during the world-famous Calgary Stampede. The promotion is led by Blade and Dallas Hart, sons of two-time WWE Hall of Famer and pro wrestling icon Bret “Hitman” Hart, and one of Western Canada’s top prospects in Mo Jabari. Alongside its own brand and roster of rising talents in the Western Canada indie scene, promises to feature a few nods to Dallas’ grandfather Stu Hart‘s Stampede Wrestling as well as his father’s Hart Foundation stable – including the most recent incarnation of the group.

Bret Hart himself will be at the Dungeon Wrestling event for a Meet and Greet, and the night’s action features a solid listing of current indie stars from the area combined with international names that have close ties to Calgary and the Hart Family.

One of the marquee matches is a Stampede generational throwback that will feature Harry Smith – aka Davey Boy Smith Jr. (or David Hart (DH) Smith in WWE) – the son of “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith and Diana Hart, daughter of Stu and Helen and brother of Bret, Owen, and the rest of the siblings. Smith has won titles around the world, as a former Stampede North American Heavyweight Champion, 2x WWE Tag Team Champion, 3x IWGP Tag Team Champion (in New Japan Pro Wrestling), 2x GHC Tag Team Champion (in Pro Wrestling NOAH), MLW Tag Team Champion, 2x Stampede International Tag Team Champion, World of Sport Tag Team Champion. and 3x (and current) NWA World Tag Team Champion. Davey Boy Jr. will be facing off against IMPACT Wrestling‘s Raj Singh, the son of former Stampede superstar Gama Singh (who also appeared with IMPACT from 2018 to 2020). Gama immigrated to Canada in 1963 at the age of nine and would become one of Stampedes’s greatest villains in the 1970s and 1980s. His nephew, Jinder Mahal, would become WWE Champion, and his son Raj currently competes for IMPACT. From 1981 to 1989, Gama Singh had many battles with Davey Boy Smith, the original British Bulldog, throughout Stampede and Western Canada. On November 12, 1982, Gama Singh defeated Davey Boy for the Stampede World Mid-Heavyweight Championship in Calgary.

The other marquee match at the Dungeon Wrestling show sees Mo Jabari facing off against AEW’s Brian Pillman Jr. in what is sure to be an athletic showcase. Pillman’s father, Brian Sr., was trained and started in the pro wrestling industry in Calgary under Stu Hart’s watch, and eventually rejoined the family in WWE as part of Bret’s new Hart Foundation in 1997 that featured British Bulldog, Jim “The Anvil| Neidhart, and Owen Hart. A few years back, Pillman and Harry Smith teamed in the New Hart Foundation in Major League Wrestling (MLW), winning the MLW World Tag Team titles. Mo Jabari, who also wrestles as Kid Chocolate, was a part of this year’s WaleMania VI event in Dallas during WrestleMania Week, and on February 24, he made his Beyond Wrestling debut as the tag partner of Dirty Dango (fka Fandango in WWE) against Waves & Curls (Jaylen Brandyn & Traevon Jordan) on Wrestling Open Episode 8 on IWTV. Jabari/Kid Chocolate was trained by Hart graduate Lance Storm back in 2017, and until this year, primarily competed in Western Canada with Real Canadian Wrestling (RCW), Praire Wrestling Alliance (PWA), and Saskatchewan’s High Impact Wrestling (HIW).

The show will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of the WWF Pay-Per-View, WWF In Your House 16: Canadian Stampede, that aired live on July 6, 1997, from Calgary. Regarded as one of the best PPVs of the pre-Attitude Era (and best of the past 25 years), the event featured the second Hart Foundation standing strong with all their family members, including a young Harry Smith.
