Starting on September 26, Game Changer Wrestling begins its latest tour of Japan. This isn’t the first time that GCW has gone international; earlier this month, the promotion took the United Kingdom by storm with 2 separate events. In fact, this isn’t even the first time said promotion has been to Japan, as it held Worst Behavior in 2019. GCW will kick off its time in Tokyo with Planet Death Japan, the continuation of a series of events celebrating deathmatch wrestling. This is evident by a single glance of the scheduled card, highlighted by an Ultraviolent Championship defense by one of the most popular freelance wrestlers in Japan. Not only will this event showcase deathmatch offerings from GCW but wrestlers from “The Land of the Rising Sun” that encapsulate the style. Pro Wrestling FREEDOMS Represents
As mentioned earlier, Planet Death is seen as an event to celebrate deathmatch wrestling. While each match scheduled for this evening applies to this, special attention should be brought to this particular tag team contest. Representing Pro Wrestling FREEDOMS will be Takashi Sasaki and Daisuke Masaoka as they square off against GCW representatives SHLAK and EFFY. This isn’t to say that Sasaki and Masaoka are the only FREEDOMS competitors to appear at Planet Death; one mustn’t overlook Toru Sugiura, for example, who’s made appearances for GCW since 2020. However, Sasaki and Masaoka have teamed up with, as well as competed against, each other several times since the late 2000s, fighting in everything from battle royals to Lighttube Deathmatches. Simply put, these men are no strangers to each other.
This level of experience should come in handy at GCW Planet Death Japan, as they battle the unlikely duo of SHLAK and EFFY. On paper, these two couldn’t be any more different. Whereas SHLAK is a grizzly brawler, EFFY tends to lean toward the more carefree side of professional wrestling. SHLAK is nothing short of a powerhouse, able to absorb copious degrees of damage and deliver it in kind. On the flip side, despite his aforementioned demeanor, EFFY has proven himself as a capable deathmatch competitor, tapping into his more sinister side to take on the most dangerous of opponents. Rina Yamashita Defends the GCW Ultraviolent Championship
In the featured match of GCW Planet Death Japan, Rina Yamashita will defend her Ultraviolent Championship for the second time. “The Deathmatch Amazon” is coming off a successful title defense on Night 2 of GCW Homecoming Weekend, where she bested a deathmatch enthusiast in her own right, Sawyer Wreck. Yamashita lives up to her moniker, unafraid to take matters to the extreme in order to pick up a victory or retain gold. Furthermore, her credentials speak for themselves, as she’s been a champion in PURE-J, Pro Wrestling WAVE, SEAdLINNNG, and a number of other international promotions. At Planet Death, Yamashita squares off against a seasoned brawler aiming for gold in Mance Warner.
“Ol’ Mancer” isn’t a stranger to success in wrestling, deathmatch or otherwise, either. He is a former GCW tag team titleholder alongside fellow Second Gear Crew member Matthew Justice. He’s also held world title gold in IWA Mid-South and Combat Zone Wrestling, not to mention emerged victorious in the Nick Gage Invitational 5 tournament that took place in 2020. Warner’s sights are on making it to the proverbial pay window, and to do so, he will have to overcome a tall challenge in the form of Yamashita. It’s been well over a year since Warner has held singles gold; at Planet Death, he’ll intend to turn the tide in his favor, even if it comes at the expense of his opponent’s title reign.
