This Saturday, Game Changer Wrestling will ensure that there is at least one fight club for people to talk about. GCW Fight Club 2022 Night 1 kicks off what promises to be an exciting weekend of wrestling, set to take place live from The Showboat venue in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Given that said venue is one of GCW’s most iconic, it should come as no surprise that the promotion comes with an impressive card to boast. From company debuts of international stars to a major Title vs. Career Match to main event, there will be much to see and experience not only in person but watching from home. Here’s what to expect.

Two Dragon Gate Competitors Make Their GCW Debut
GCW Fight Club 2022 Night 1 will be a unique event in that it features representation from Dragon Gate. Two of the company’s most notable wrestlers, YAMATO and Shun Walker, make their Game Changer Wrestling debuts this Saturday. To start off, YAMATO boasts over a decade and a half of experience, not to mention a smooth technical style and charismatic personality. Dragon Gate fans will know that he’s also a member of the HIGH-END faction, which consists of Ben-K, Kagetora, and others. Furthermore, YAMATO is an accomplished tag team wrestler in the company, winning its Triangle Gate and Twin Gate titles on numerous occasions. This can’t take away from his singles accomplishments, particularly as a 5x Open the Dream Gate Champion, his fourth reign lasting a staggering 421 days.
Meanwhile, Shun Skywalker brings a combination of styles to Dragon Gate, most prominently a propensity to take matters to the skies. This high-flying masked wrestler has seen success in his home promotion, including a 259-day reign as Open the Dream Gate Champion, but as of late, he’s been on a roll in the United States. Last month, at Major League Wrestling’s Super Series event, he bested Myron Reed for the MLW World Middleweight Championship, capturing his first title outside of Japan. Simply put, the sky seems to be the limit for the Z-Brats member, so it’s fair to assume that he’ll be confident heading into Night 1 of GCW Fight Club 2022.
This Saturday, YAMATO and Shun Skywalker face off against vastly different opponents. YAMATO is set to take on the technically savvy Tony Deppen, one of the most reliable in-ring competitors in GCW. Given their in-ring styles, one would imagine that this match can steal the show. Meanwhile, Skywalker has his hands full with Nick Wayne, an up-and-coming independent star who may be All Elite Wrestling-bound once he becomes of age. Title Victory or Swan Song?
If there is one wrestler that can be considered the heart and soul of Game Changer Wrestling, it’s Nick Gage. “The Man, The King, The God” personifies not only GCW but deathmatch wrestling as a whole, starting his in-ring career in the late 1990s. Though legal troubles have halted his time in wrestling, his success within the squared circle can’t be denied. The former GCW Tag Team Champion and 2x GCW World Champion has put on matches with opponents ranging from Chris Jericho to David Arquette, making an impression on both new fans and long-time followers alike. However, this Saturday, his legacy may be at risk as he prepares to put his career on the line.
In October 2021, Jon Moxley defended the GCW World Championship against Gage. This was a spirited main event that, despite Gage’s best efforts, saw Moxley walk out with the belt. At this past August’s GCW Homecoming Night 1, Moxley successfully defended the GCW World Championship against EFFY. Post-match, Gage confronted the champion, challenging him to a title match. It didn’t take long for Moxley to decide, as he accepted said challenge right then and there. However, Moxley stated that he would only do so if Gage put his career on the line as well. Once Gage gave the okay, their world title match was made official for GCW Fight Club 2022 Night 1. It should go without saying, but the stakes couldn’t be higher.
Moxley captured the GCW World Championship in September 2021 and has successfully defended it multiple times since, overcoming opponents including Tony Deppen and Homicide. It also can’t be ignored that Moxley became the first-ever 3x AEW World Champion at last month’s AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam. Ergo, Nick Gage is facing arguably the best version of Jon Moxley this weekend, though it can be disputed that “The King” will be at his very best heading into Fight Club. Either Gage leaves The Showboat a 2x GCW World Champion or a retired veteran of the ring. This will be a main event not to miss.
