Pro Wrestling NOAH fans were in for quite the shock during today’s event when a video played to announce one of Muta’s final matches. Shinsuke Nakamura’s entrance theme played before the man himself revealed that he would in fact be one of Muta’s final opponents. Their match is scheduled to take place on January 1, 2023 at the Nippon Budokan.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs The Great Muta Announced for Noah The New Year 2023

Muta’s retirement road has been filled with major stars so far but the inclusion of WWE’s Nakamura is perhaps the biggest surprise yet. We have already seen Muta appear in AEW to aid Sting as he heads towards retirement, and now he gets a match with a WWE star.

It’s quite the visual to see former New Japan Pro Wrestling top star Shinsuke Nakamura heading for a Pro Wrestling NOAH ring, it’s even more astounding that it’s for a first-time ever clash with The Great Muta. This isn’t the first time WWE has been obliging to NOAH, let’s not forget they allowed KENTA (then Hideo Itami) to wrestle Naomichi Marufuji while under a WWE deal. One has to wonder if they will, in return, get to host one of Muta’s final matches in America. The Japanese wrestling legend is of course well-known to fans in the US thanks to his time in WCW and the NWA.
