New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) has announced the lineup for the upcoming Super Junior Tag League tournament, starting November 21st and concluding on December 14th, due to a combined tour for both tag team tournaments within the promotion. The format this year will be 1 block comprised of 10 teams and whoever the winning team is will face current IWGP Jr Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Francesco Akira & TJP in a title match at WrestleKingdom 17. The lineup this year is made up of some fresh teams, including the likes of YOH & Lio Rush (who are representing CHAOS), BUSHI & Titan, Alex Zayne & El Lindaman and Ace Austin & Chris Bey, among others.
After successfully defending the IWGP Jr Tag Team championships at Battle Autumn against Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ), Catch 22 (Akira & TJP) has a ton of momentum heading into Super Jr Tag League. Many new teams will be looking to make first time impressions like KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight, or the team of Ryusuke Taguchi & Clark Connors also known as “Wild Hips’. Here’s the full block lineup and schedule info.
- TJP and Francesco Akira (United Empire)
- Robbie Eagles and Tiger Mask (Flying Tiger , 2021 Super Jr tag winners)
- KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight (LA Dojo)
- BUSHI and Titan (Los Ingobernables de Japon)
- Yoshinobu Kanemaru & DOUKI (Suzuki Gun)
- Ace Austin & Chris Bey (Bullet Club)
- YOH & Lio Rush (CHAOS)
- SHO & Dick Togo (House of Torture)
- Ryusuke Taguchi & Clark Connors (Team Hontai)
- El Lindaman & Alex Zayne (GLEAT)
The tournament will be spread across a 9 show schedule and ends on December 10th but since the tournament coincides with World Tag League, it will end a week later (December 14th). Whoever walks out as the league winners will have United Empire waiting for them and the IWGP Jr heavyweight tag team championships at stake for the undercard of Wrestlekingdom 17. Any of the 10 teams have a realistic shot at winning the Jr tag league this year but it’ll probably come down to CHAOS (YOH & Lio Rush), BUSHI & Titan or Flying Tiger repeating once again.
